Is anyone else going through this?

We have clients still on perpetual licenses for SAW. We get the notice from Sage that the perpetual license is going to renew, but then it just doesn't. Then Sage says you are now lapsed so you will just have to start a new subscription license, for like double, triple, or almost 4x the cost of before. No heads up. No gradual movement of a higher rate of renewal year over year to push towards subscription. This seems intentional. Let is lapse so a new subscription is required. When I push back, I am told it is what it is.

The clients are not aware they are lapsed. Since the program still works & they are paying Sage monthly or annually, they assume its part of those fees & its not.

I have a report from ECI with the amount of lapsed fees, which the client would be willing to pay to get them back on track, but Sage won't honor that perpetual rate going forward. So why would they even pay the back fees?

Just no transparency to us or the client.

If they are on perpetual, why BOTHER to pay the renewal?  Just run it into the ground and then start over.  It is perpetual!

    Active Perpetual still allows upgrades.

If they are an active perpetual, they would qualify for upgrades & we have some that are. But we have a handful where we got the notice from renewals, but then it just doesn't renew. Sage has acknowledged that they missed the renewals, but won't put them back on perpetual if they pay up the lapsed amount. Just seems shady.

I won't be at MOTM, but this might be something worth asking in the Sage Q&A session.

I get that, but when these clients are getting new servers, we need a new license. Now some are up to 4x the cost because they are no longer grandfathered into those old rates. Like $500/year vs $1600/year, or $900/year vs $3600/year.  Its a big jump & shock to clients without notice. Some have been paying up until this past year when they just stopped drafting the payments.

You can try going directly to ECI to purchase a new license for your customers.  What's the saying?  Two shady's don't make sunlight?  LOL!

Another option would be to consider Visual Cut.  Yes, it is a change, but it would also save your customers lots of $$$$$.

Not trying to intentionally poo-poo on Sage, but their desire to be a subscription software company after 10 years or so is really pitiful.  :-(

HI Folks, I have gone through this several times.   It is incredibly frustrating.   Any time I client buys I third party product through Sage it seems to take an Act of Congress to get Sage & the vendor to get together on this.  Sage "does not issue the keys" and the vendor does not know about the payment to Sage.  Sage needs to have a better system for this if they are going to sell products that need updated keys from the vendor...
