Sage Alerts / Knowledgesync upgrade to V10

  • 1.  Sage Alerts / Knowledgesync upgrade to V10

    Posted 05-18-2021 12:30

    Hi

Does anyone have experience in upgrading S. Alerts / Knowledgesync from Version 9 to version 10 ?

We have a customer who is interested in upgrading due to period corruption in some of the access files that V9 uses to store system things.

Looking for feedback on how easy it was, (or hard !) etc.

    Thanks

    Jeff F.

I'm interested in this question too.
My customer has taken and implemented this largely on their own and I'm not sure how tough it is going to be to get to v10

HI Guys,  I have worked with the new version after having worked with the older version for many years.  There was a really huge issue with it at first and once it was figured out what was going on it was easily fixed (after months of hair pulling and listening to the customer scream).  I think they have resolved it but it but it boils down to the system trying to do a file copy every time it ran a report which would cause an error that would get logged and the logs very quickly became too large to mange. There is a checkbox that will prevent this (as they said, you shouldn't have to check it but best to be safe.
Outside of the initial issue it is really nice.  Bit of getting used to the interface but easier to have one insead for 5.  Also with the interface being a web page it is possible to access if from workstations if the firewall settings are updated.

    Hi Robert

Thanks for the info - two questions:

    1.  Can you post a screenshot of the checkbox you refer to ?

    2.  Did you upgrade a customer from 9 to 10 or is this feedback from a new v10 install ?

    Thanks again

    Jeff

    Hi @Jeff Fiddelman,
I have done upwards of 10 upgrades. As Robert said, there were a few glitches at the beginning but the newer version 10.3 doesn't seem to have as many issues. The biggest time suck is if they are on PVX, you still have to use the KLF (which is a separate download and requires activation of multiple dll's); and updating crystal reports OBCD connections. Other that that it is a pretty smooth upgrade.

    Hi Jeff,
I couldn't get to my client's system yesterday or I would have posted.   This was a new install for the clent.  I have not done any upgrades to 10   I had forgotten about the KLF issue that @Michelle Forsey mentioned.   Bit of a PITA but it is only a one time thing.

I've only done a few version 10 implementations so far, one was an upgrade from version 9 I believe.  I've worked with version 9 for a number of years and version 10 is a big improvement and much nicer to work with, also more efficient when using the UI to build queries.  My only gripe with it is that it seems to have a query timeout that is hardcoded to either 30 or 60 seconds and so for two clients, I was seeing out of box queries (the EventPak queries) timing out when querying against certain combinations of tables, especially those including large historical tables.  So I found that I had to manually rewrite a number of queries to utilize sub-queries, temp tables or common table expressions depending on the complexity of the query.  I have opened a case with Vineyardsoft on this near the beginning of the year but haven't gotten a resolution yet.  All clients were running ProvideX versions of Sage 100 and I utilized the Linked Server tool via version 10's web portal.  I did not use the Access database created by the KLF tool like you would do for version 9.

You do need to set up a system DSN pointing to the Sage 100 install and include company code and credentials when setting it up.  You can then select this DSN when adding the Linked Server in version 10.

@David Speck II  Per the Alerts * Workflows v10.4 release notes - I noticed the timeout value can be configured now.
The following enhancements have been implemented in the application:

2.1 Configurable Command Timeout for Database Queries

Customers can extend the default timeout for triggers and Submit SQL actions beyond the default (30 seconds) with a
    setting in advanced connection properties.

They did add that finally.  It is in two places, one under the Admin section under one of the tabs and another when maintaining an application connection.  If i recall correctly, they only allow overriding it up to 180 seconds.

One other thing I have asked them to add is formatting for dates at the email level, they already have this for numeric fields but not dates.  So when version 10 goes through SQL views, the date fields are displayed in yyyy-MM-dd format by default and if the client doesn't want that, then you have to use the Format function in the query and if you also want to sort on the date when formatting it as MM/dd/yyyy, then you have to add the date column again without the format function and sort on the unformatted date.
