  • 1.  Sage Alert To Customers: Update your Sage 100 software to prevent an interruption

    Posted 06-15-2023 08:57

I just received this from a customer - it is a notification about TLS 1.2 and Sage Licensing Servers.

Update your Sage 100 software to prevent an interruption

    June 14, 2023

Note: If you have already updated your software, or are working with your partner to plan your update no further action is required.

Sage will end support of Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 and 1.1 for online communications by October 1, 2023. TLS is a security protocol that creates encryption paths over computer networks to help ensure that online communications and information cannot be intercepted. Regulatory standards have increasingly required the adoption of TLS 1.2 and the subsequent depreciation of TLS 1.0 and 1.1 due to known security risks.

Sage servers will stop accepting communication from products using TLS 1.0 and 1.1 on October 1, 2023. If you are using versions of Sage 100 that do not utilize TLS 1.2, an update or upgrade will be required to prevent a disruption in the use of your software. Sage 100 versions 2018 PU10, 2019 PU4, 2020 PU1 and newer versions support TLS 1.2.

If you do not update or upgrade your software, you will begin receiving warning messages when accessing Sage 100 due to the inability to communicate with Sage servers. Your software will revert to read-only mode and restrict access after a grace period of approximately 45 days.

    Next Step

Contact your Sage business partner to discuss updating or upgrading your software.

To my surprise I was informed last week that this is also dependent/relative to the client's Sage renewal date.  So apparently even if their Sage 100 isn't using TLS 1.2 as of 10-1-23, they won't be impacted until their renewal date (e.g. 4-15-24).  Is that correct?!?!

I think you're correct. It's whenever the system phones home - which depends on when the license renews ( monthly, annually ). I'm surprised Sage doesn't try a TLS avoidance five-Year Renewal promo. However, that would likely interfere with their plans to migrate users from whatever solution isn't in favor ( at the moment ) to whatever solution is in favor ( at the moment ).

As a practical matter, I'm telling customers they need to be compliant by 10/1/2023 or face a potential read-only accounting system. I'm also expiring ALL my upgrade quotes on August 1, 2023.
