Sage Advanced 2019.3 "Cannot communicate with Sage Desktop 2.0"

  • 1.  Sage Advanced 2019.3 "Cannot communicate with Sage Desktop 2.0"

    Client is running Sage100 Adv 2019.3 on a remote desktop server.  IT restarted the RDS server due to high utilization, and after the restart, any connection to Paya (for credit card processing) gets this message.

    Have tried the following:

    1.  Completely remove Sage Exchange Desktop according to procedures from Sage support, and downloaded and installed (including update) from Paya.  No change.

    2.  Completely remove Sage Exchange Desktop according to procedures from Sage support, and install from the ..\MAS90\wksetup\Prerequisites\SageExchange.  No change


    Paya support was no help, and this is challenging to work on during the week, as everything is working fine other than Credit Cards ....

    Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.

    Are you running Sage as an app on RDS are through the full remote desktop?

    Did you check and make sure Data Execution Prevention is off or if it's on Sage Exchange is allowed to run? Also check A/V settings (or even disable temporarily to see if that works)? Sorry if you tried all this already - just trying to think of things I know have caused us issues in the past. MIght be good to share what you have tried for the group.

    Jeff - In case it might be a firewall or proxy server policy set prior to reboot but didn't kick in until afterwards, have you tried a connection test yet to the Sage endpoints/URLs for Paya/SED? One way is to try from SYZCON.

    Mimicking AR_CreditCardSPS.pvc which connects to Paya/SED vault:

    OPEN(HFN)"[TCP]www.na.sage.com;80;nodelay"
    If this fails then it does this:
    OPEN(HFN)"[TCP]www.sageexchange.com;443;nodelay"

    If connect test fails, IT can look to allow both endpoints above for Windows Firewall, corporate firewall, and proxy server policies.
    If connect test succeeds, any chance you're the RDS machine is old Server 2003 - if so key in 57140 in Sage KB search.

    Did you ever resolve this?  I have a client on Sage 100 2020 with same issue - have uninstalled/reinstalled, worked with Sage support and Century Business support (they use eBizCharge for credit cards).

    I'm running into the same issue with just one workstation at a client site.  It works fine on a different system.  The workstation that is "broke" worked fine until last Thursday and on Friday it suddenly stopped working.  Two hours with Sage looking at it yesterday and an hour with Paya and they keep sending me back and forth.  I checked for updates.  There was an Adobe update installed Thursday and two Windows updates on Friday.  They swear the Windows updates didn't get installed until after the Paya problem started because they rebooted the workstation in an attempt to resolve the Paya issues and the updates didn't install until the reboot happened.  @Andrea Stull and @Beth Bowers - can you check for updates please?​​

    My case is #8008924017.  I just got off the phone with them and basically got nowhere.  They're recommending rolling back the two Windows updates that were installed on Friday - KB5006670 and KB5005539 but said even if one or both caused the issue, a rollback might not fix it.  They also recommended running Proc Mon to see if that uncovers something.  However, they couldn't tell me what to filter on to try to narrow it down.  They thought maybe SED.  ​

    My case # is 8008923458.  Ironically it is closed - resolved as of course once they saw eBiz handled credit card processing Sage determined not their issue.  Per Century Business (eBiz) it is a Sage issue as their solution works off of Paya.​

    I had a customer who was having this error earlier this morning.  The resolution here to delete (I renamed instead of deleted) the files it mentions on the C:\Drive and it fixed his issue. I don't know if it's related, but it happened to him a 2nd time a couple hours later.  Maybe worth seeing if that fixes it as well.  The files that are deleted/renamed recreate themselves when you launch PCD again.

    One of my largest clients reported this issue to me yesterday. They have opened a support case with Sage and are in the middle of the Sage/Paya tug of war. The client is getting this error on the application server, remote server and end user workstations so I'm hoping reinstalling windows is not the action of choice for these poor people. I've sent the other suggestions in this thread along and will report back if one of those fixes it. Has anyone seen anything else work or identified the original cause of the error?

    I haven't gotten past it yet.  Since it works on one workstation but not another in my situation, we got the IT consultant involved.  I don't believe it was Windows updates because those same updates were installed on the workstation that works.  The last report I got, they were going to try uninstalling anti-virus and rolling back from Windows updates.  If that doesn't work, they were talking about reinstalling Windows.  Since it worked fine on Thursday but not starting Friday, they're baffled.

    Everything works great after their IT consultant re-installed Windows.  He advised that would be economical than trying to chase down what happened.

    I'm going to throw in a suggestion here, even though the error message we got isn't exactly you are getting, however, the environment, and in one case the existence of eBiz is exactly the same variables.

    Here's what we discovered:
    eBiz requires Paya. However, apparently, when eBiz is installed, it wants Sage to trigger the Paya process.

    By default, when you install Paya on a Terminal Server, it automatically starts Paya Exchange Desktop for every user that logs in, and that tripped out credit card processing within Sage. (in our case with eBiz, but perhaps that might now be the case with Paya on its own -- could possibly be because of some windows update -- )

    The fix that we got to was to remove (not uninstall) the startup for Paya from the registry, and allow Sage to call it when needed.
    Remove the entry from here:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    Once removed, try your transaction again.  Hopefully this resolution will also address the symptoms your are seeing.

    Did anyone find a way to resolve this short of reinstalling windows? My large client is still experiencing it on all but one user workstation and even if we duplicate that workstation's settings the other users still get the error so IT has thrown in the towel. Sage and Paya both have open support cases but no resolution. Anyone slay this dragon?

    We had a breakthrough on this but it feels really specific to this client. They use Cylance and we had to add a number of exceptions for Cylance to allow it to open.


    Once it was applied in Cylance and the policy updated on the workstation. we had to restart the Paya application on the workstation or reboot the machine.

    The following items were whitelisted in Cylance

    About 90% of the active users on this group forum participated in this chat (and had customers with this problem) , and nobody found a solution.

    Are all your customers content to reinstall Windows or live with this problem? 

    We need to do much better at closing the loops on these messages.

    @Wayne Schulz, I typically do a similar process (see two attachments) as BEEVET in your Sage City post, and that often resolves it.

    Apparently, the customer also is receiving a failed update 



    When they look at the log it mentions a bad certificate

    Paya online KB is poor with few current articles

    Sage support closes the ticket blaming Paya. When I called back on the case, I couldn't even get past dispatch who tried for 15 minutes to find the original tech who talked to the customer.

    Failed update?  What kind of update (your inserted image isn't showing)?  Unfortunately maybe that particular computer just has issues.  Re: the Paya kb, I've actually had decent luck with it in the past, although I noticed that the link Chris posted way above is now inaccessible and behind a Helpjuice logon (but that's one of the pdf's I attached above), and it doesn't come up in the Paya kb although plenty of articles do.

    I think the failed update is if they uninstall Paya Desktop and then go to try and reinstall it.

    I had some issues with the latest update failing to install in some cases. 

    What I found that worked was to exit PCD (right click it in the system tray) and then start it from the start menu. Then I was offered to Install as Administrator and it was successful. It wasn't successful choosing to install the update from the PCD system tray icon.

    Have another customer reporting this and witnessed the same error. They are Sage 100 2021 Premium and trying to install the latest Sage (Paya) Exchange Desktop update. It displays a progress bar 5-10 minutes before barfing up the same error message.

    Logged in with local administrator rights?  Try the manual uninstall process?

    BTW, I know EBizCharge aka Century Business' most recent release doesn't need Sage Exchange to be installed.  I just upgraded my internal system on Friday

    I ended up having to go to the website, do a manual download of this and reinstall that. I couldn't get it to work if it was trying to do the download in Paya itself. In one case, we had to reboot the server to get it to take finally – it was almost like it got stuck in a loop.

    It seems like we've tried almost everything
    1. Run as Administrator
    2. Download directly from Paya
    3. Follow a myriad of 'maybe' solutions from the websites
    4. Uninstall / reinstall /reboot

    In both cases that I've seen, the error appears to be ( and, yes, I tried as best I could to save a copy of what appeared to be the certificate from my computer) - "ERROR: Certificate did not pass validation: Invalid name string (N="Paya, Inc", "O="Paya, Inc","L=Atlanta, S=Georgia, C=US

    I just found the above KB article on the Paya site: 

    While I'm not 100% sure, it appears to be replacing some (or all) of the installer component (sageexchangebootstraper): 

    On March 24, 2023, Paya Connect Desktop released a new version build of 2.0.3.1 with Application Deployment 1.0.39 for Sage Software. Recently there have been error reports with Sage 100 2020, Greenway Intergy, and other older ERP Editions that completed updating to the App Deployment version of 1.0.39. Please note the installation instructions to roll back to application deployment 1.0.0 below. 

    The rest of the instructions appear to suggest reinstalling this sageexchangebootstrapper and then answering yes to the update prompts. I've sent the information to the customer. Unfortunately I can't duplicate the issue on my computer so I don't know if this resolves the issue or not.

    On 5/10/2023 I received a prompt for 2.0.3.3 (I believe the prior release was 2.0.3.1).
    Am hoping that this may resolve the issue but I have not yet tested with the customer
