I have a client that has been using Sage 100 for nearly 20 years.  They are the small fish being merged with a larger fish.  Problem is the large fish thinks Sage 50 is the cat "fishes" meow.  Over the years, client has added UDF's, Crystal reports and invoice forms that gives him a lot of functionality.  Unfortunately, there is a lot of Sage 100 functionality that he is not using either.

Sooooo, does anyone have any Sage 50 horror stories as to why they need to stay the course with Sage 100?  Again, he is now the guppy in the pond.

    Yes, a few!
    Sage 50 cons:
    • Job cost is really simple and free from the burdensome features we've come to know.
    • Like QB, you can delete transactions like they never happened if you have the rights.
    • It's fragile.  It'll crash if you look at it cockeyed, or press two keys at once.  It also gets data corruption fairly easily.  (I farm out repair work to a guy every January when the Year End Close Wizard crashes or gets interrupted because it's running for hours, and the transactions lose knowledge of what bucket they belong in and guess what - it doesn't even tell you!)
    • You only have two years open at any given time.  You can only view years before that.
    • It integrates with NOTHING.
    • A custom field in Sage 50 is on a list item.  I can display on a line (say, if it's on the Item List), and you can even put data in it, but you can't, say, capture some piece of custom info in line of a transaction and have it post in such a way that you can pass it through to the GL or use it meaningfully.
    • The import jobs have not much in the way of validation and sometimes they import half a file and fail and if you get an error message, there's no specifics on the data that failed, so the message may be a seismic anomaly leaving you scratching your head.
    • They dropped Crystal Reports and have only SBI, but last I looked, not the nice version like ours but a hard to use one that's drag and drop.
    Sage 50 pros:
    • It has reports you can drill down into and people love that.
    • It has invoices / bills that all fit on one screen and people love that.
    • It allows more than one budget for any given year.

Interesting thing.  Thanks.  Sometimes we forget what we have and take Sage 100 for granted.

I have one client on Sage 50 and I get this call on a regular basis. "Suzie in shipping updated Sage 50 on her station and now it is telling all of us you need to update the server."

Also it only allows named users, I am constantly reminding the office admin to exit so I can login as the system admin and perform maintenance, changes etc..
