Sage 4.50.5 - importing items lines with extended descriptions into Sales Order Entry. Even after increasing the Max Length of the field, selecting ""Skip Data Source Truncation"", assigning field value from Temp field, etc. either the field stays maxed at 30 characters for what it brings in, or I get the message ""The ITEMCODEDESC$ is greater than 30 character(s)."" Has anyone been successful with importing in long descriptions into either SO or SO Invoice?

Do the descriptions already exist in the system? If so they will automatically populate.

No, these are ""new"" descriptions that I want to override whatever is in the system.

The item description is 30 characters in So_SalesOrderDetails, and references the extended description key when needed. Your going to need to have the extended descriptions on file first, like @GeneUlrich mentioned, then they'll auto-populate.

It seems like what Amber is attempting should be possible - realisticly users might have an item code where the extended description changes on each orderor invoice. Amber, one alternate option might be to import that into the comment Text field instead of the descripiton field and then use comment text field in crystal to print on the SO or SO Invoice form

Thanks David - I was thinking along the same lines, but using a UDF instead as they are currently using the Comment field for other info. I'll have to test this again in other versions, because I don't think this used to be problem importing SO-specific descriptions before.

Works the same way in 4.4.0.10.
