Sage 100c 2016 PU3 - trying to transfer a serialized item from warehouse 003 to 000. Everything seems to go ok until I try to distribute the serial number and I get the message ""You cannot distribute to an existing serial number. Enter a new serial number"" All I'm trying to do is move an item from one warehouse to another and I'm not sure what I'm missing or if this is a Sage bug.

Business case: Customer uses RMA. Serialized item returned on RMA for credit. Receive the return into inspection warehouse 003. Sage appears to want us to give it a new serial # rather than be able to transfer it from 003 to 000 (main wh).

Have you updated the credit memo? That's what puts it into whatever warehouse is entered in RMA. You should be able to reuse the same serial #. Then you would have to do a transfer between warehouses unless you change the warehouse in RMA entry before generating the credit or in SO Invoice D/E when updating the credit memo.

I think I made a mistake and the transfer shows the from / to warehouse on the header. I may have gotten them mixed up. I'm going to log back in shortly and will update.

I just checked - if this is user error I can't see how. I try to transfer from one warehouse to another and the above error shows. Has been posted since I can see the item in the transfer FROM warehouse on a valuation report. As of now I'm thinking it's a product defect with inventory transfers of serial numbers. I'll probably open a case with Sage tomorrow if I have the time.

I just tried with 2016 PU2, and ABC data... it worked fine. Transfered a modem from 000 to 001, post, then transfer it back. The error sounds like the target warehouse already has qty = 1 for that serial #.

I'll look closer at this. I'm not sure if it is somehow related to the RMA process where we are receiving it back to an inspection warehouse then trying to transfer it to the regular warehouse.
