Sage 100 workstation dies after splash screen new install

EDITED - the splash screen does not even display
Working on an upgrade.  ALL I have done is install the 2020.1 so far, and I can't login.  First the workstation update would run and die - I found I had to enable scripting in the registry and I manually run the autoupdater.  But obviously there is still some network issue, because it promptly dies.  Have no where else to access it from at this time.  :-(

Is it dying or hiding?  STD or ADV?  AV issues?  What are you moving from?

Beth, I am having the same issue.  I have running fresh install of  Sage100 Standard v2020.1 .  I am a local admin and have tried to start the startup as administrator.

Let me know what you find out although . I am thinking of uninstalling  the system and starting over with  V2020.0  and get it running then install PU1.  I will let you know.... Thanks SAGE for a couple wasted hours...

@Beth Bowers  Yes seems to be related to 2020 PU1... When I reinstalled without  PU1 everything started up fine.  once I install PU1 the same thing started happening again.   The system won't complete the Workstation Synchronization.   I'm guessing we will likely be expecting a FIX for PU1 or a KB entry right away from SAGE.

I wake up around this time anyway, so I decided to wander out and see if the LotSerial file had ever finished converting.  Which it hadn't, of course...  Yes, I had 2 upgrades last night, neither of which went well thanks to SU1 (bless your heart Sage, and I mean that in the most Southern way possible).

Glad to know it wasn't just me posting about the turtle slowness of the lot/serial file converting last week......  And I made the double mistake of selecting "convert all companies" at 8 PM.  Bad news it was still converting 12 hours later but it had at least finished with the main company so it could be used.  Since then, they have only had to reboot the server once to clear unknown issues.

I believe it is time that 90 Minds stopped coddling Sage and oohing and aahhing over a few trinkets that should have been added to the program years ago, and instead sent a substantial invoice to Sage for beta testing their product.

90 Minds handles a lot of the Sage 100 tech support.  I rarely call Sage tech support. Before I joined 90 Minds seven or eight years ago my only option was to call Sage and hope to get a good support person.

I responded to Beth privately last night because I didn't want to hijack her thread, but perhaps my issue IS related to PU1 and this is more information, so I'll now add it here.

I have PU1 at three customers, but I'm just having an issue on one of those customers.  For two of the customers, they were running Sage with no PU, later I installed PU1 and there haven't been issues.

At the third customer (a current upgrade, not live yet because of this issue), the original install was included PU1.  I cannot get the workstation to install (let alone the update) on workstations; it is loaded fine on the adfs server (we used that as a test) and the server.   One of our tech guys will be looking into it, because we think it's a network issue.  I will post again if we find anything network related.  Perhaps is it network related, but because of PU1

Perhaps what you can do is install Sage without the PU, run workstation setup and then install PU1 and see if it can get the update.  That is what I'm going to do after reading this thread.

@Kevin Moyes - if that would have worked, I would have just totally lost it - because I have certainly seen that before.  It didn't, though.  Sage is on the machine right now - no love yet.  Found that it also won't run from other machines, either.

BUT, and this is where mine may be different - it also did the same thing with the 2018 version on this server which I KNOW I had been into before, because I did the 2018 upgrade here!

I have two test systems... added PU1 to one (Standard 2020), logged in fine there.  Workstation install on the second system pointing at the first: again, no problem.
Doesn't seem to be a universal problem with PU1.

Yeah, as I was thinking further about this, I have a fourth customer with PU1, whom I'm also working on an upgrade.  I didn't have any issues loading workstation install, but that was to RDP servers.

Wayne, turn on UAC? That's interesting!

Altec is installed here - not sure if it could be involved.

I think I've mentioned that previously I saw something similar ( different version of Sage ) at a customer site on just one workstation. From what I recall once they finally resolved the issue they had to turn on the UAC briefly in order to be prompted for something.

I believe the symptoms were slightly different in that the workstation sync flashed and then stopped no matter how many times we re-ran workstation setup.

Got all excited, @Wayne Schulz - but no.

SO Sage just spent an hour and half or so on the server, came up with nothing, told us to run ProcMon and try the Workstation again and see if we can figure it out.

I’ve had procmon suggested before for other issues. A very sophisticated IT person didn’t want to run it claiming it produced so much output that it was almost impossible to chase down an error message.

We have worked on this flipping thing all day.  The only time I got slightly giddy was when we tried to run it from a workstation instead of the server and we got one of those new messages about not being able to copy a file and to look in the .txt log file.
I'm GUESSING that is also the reason on the server but it's just not showing that error message.

BUT we can't figure out what rights are the issue.  The IT guy has been tippy tapping away at changing permissions and all sorts of shit (and he managed to install over the 2018 version - we can discuss if you'd like to find out how that can happen), but we are no closer to a fix.

Copying their server into the cloud and will work on it next week.

For me, I un-installed Sage 2020.1, installed Sage 2020 without the SP and that didn't help.  What did work is copying the WKsetup folder to the workstation and install the WKstation from that. I never did that before.  No issues. I am not putting up any SPs until Sage reports SP fixed.

The client has new HP PCs and our tech group thinks there is something embedded in the PC's themselves, as he was able to load Sage onto his older HP laptop, but none of the new ones.

Sage used to put out really, tested products.

FYI,  At this point, there is nothing documented at SAGE.  Beth, they closed your case so if you waiting on an answer you will be forever!!.

@Roberta Chase  for mine to work I have to uninstall SAGE completely and then reinstall from scratch and remigrate   (and not install PU1)
    then it worked.

Cylance has settings that prevent VB scripts from running. That prevents the workstation update from working on those workstations.

It was Cylance Protect and once it was uninstalled the workstation sync updated correctly..  I will say that the IT team could not seems to "Disable it" so they uninstalled the client on the server I was on.  We are still working on the upgrade so we haven't started rolling out to workstation but hopefully they will figure out how to disable it on the workstations..

Just did a 2019.2 to 2019.4 Advanced as well as Payroll 2.21 and now one Windows 7 workstation is doing the workstation setup dance.

    We've tried the standard:
    - Disable AV ( Sophos )
    - Run as administrator, have administrator login and attempt to install
    - Manually run the script through the various instructions in Sage

We get the same behavior which is that the workstation sync displays for about 15 seconds, progress bar finishes, sync screen disappears and we are left looking at a blank Windows desktop.

I'm curious if anyone uncovered new information on this other than disabling/uninstalling the AV?

    Update:

    1. Enabled UAC ( so that the user would be prompted ) ** REBOOT OF WORKSTATION REQUIRED **
    2. As the Administrator we restarted Sage 100 on the workstation
    3. Received workstation sync message
    4. Received a prompt ( UAC ) to change something on Sage ( answered yes )
    5. Problem fixed - Sage 100 started

MOD: Please move this to regular Sage 100 and out of urgent
