Sage 100 will not open on server - solution Installed Sage 100 Adv on a new server. Program works perfectly from every workstation but would not open on the server. It turns out that the server has to have a Default printer installed before Sage 100 will open. Am I the only one who didn't know that?

I just did a Sage 100 Adv setup to a test system where I don't think they had any printers installed other than the defaults which came with the server? Here's what the printers look like. I didn't run into any issues.

The hanging due to lack of a default printer is a pvx thing. Since Level 3.0x just clicking pvxwin32.exe will hang if there's no default printer or there is one but it can't read the printer properties. Also of note is the paper size of that default printer correlates to the size of the preview window when you preview a report. E.g. if you're sitting at a warehouse computer and preview say the S/O Open Order by Item report and it looks like the size of a label, you might realize the Windows default printer is a Zebra (true story) and since there was no other printer to make the default except XPS Document Writer (which Wayne gets auto-installed with Windows for o/s's after Server 2003 and XP SP2) , chose that and all was well.

Does the Sage PDF printer count as a printer then?

Yes Sage PDF Converter counts as a printer but whether it's trustworthy is hard to say. If it was your Windows default there should be no problem starting up MAS 90 or 200. What's interesting is when you load a form or report in MAS, Sage PDF Converter is normally removed from the printer drop-down and in theory it should still be able to do that while selecting another one of your Windows printers. However in this server scenario where Sage PDF Converter would be the only printer in Windows, the MAS form / report load may result in the printer being set to Deferred :)

good to know @AlnoorCassim - I always have IT install a ""real"" printer on the server but wondered if Sage PDF would be an option. Guess it could be but not the best choice.
