I have a client using SAGE 100 STD in one location. I'm guessing that the average number of daily signed-in users are between 5 and 10 users. Currently, 1 or 2 remote users access SAGE 100 STD via SonicWall VPN and two dedicated VMs on the network. I just received this message from their IT dept:

"I'm interested in exploring the ability of users of Sage to be able to use it remotely. I would like to install Sage on the terminal server and then setup published apps to access."

I know the client just acquired a business in another city.  I'm not exactly sure what IT means by "published apps to access."  What should I be ready to discuss?  1) Running SAGE 100 on a terminal server has been reliable since the beginning of time? 2) Now is the time to upgrade to SAGE 100 Advanced? 3) Sage Cloud? 4) ???

Thanks in advance for any ideas. Hope everyone has a GREAT 4th of July weekend!

Someone else correct me if  I'm wrong - published apps are basically remote desktop except the app icons display directly on the desktop ( instead of an RDP window ) and the customer clicks on the Sage 100 icon none the wiser that they are running on a virtual machine.

Correct. Like running a program on a remote desktop, without the actual remote desktop... just the program.

Extra functionality like Excel queries need to be done by a separate remote app too, since the local workstation won't necessarily have network access to the data (or the required ODBC driver).  Need to import a spreadsheet: you'd need to transfer it from the local workstation to a path accessible by the remote machine.  Opening Paperless PDF's: publish a PDF reader...
