Sage 100 v2020 to 2022 Are Supported. Except When They Aren't?

Regarding the OAuth requirements which may impact customers 10/1/2022 ( Sage has since updated their public facing FAQ and removed the ability for 2020 users to be compatible with any type of patch ).

As of the OAuth change date noted in their FAQ  (10/1/2022)  Sage will be supporting versions 2020, 2021 and 2022 (Per Sage KB)

So, why is a customer on a supported version being told they must upgrade to retain compatibility as opposed to being provided an update/patch to their supported version

And, yes, I do note that Sage shuffles their feet in this release and partly states "Product versions that support Modern Authentication and TLS 1.2 may differ from current and supported product of Sage 100 and 300."

What exactly does the word "supported" mean to Sage?

In my personal opinion this is unethical behavior by Sage and a shame that they are not being pressured to honor their own supported versions which they've published for years.
I've looked on the supported versions page and haven't found where it says "supported unless it's too hard for us to make the change".

Maybe customer subscription can change to $x per year unless the economy is in a recession and then the customer doesn't need to pay if they deem it too much stress on their financials?

Let the public shaming begin.  About the only reason left for anyone to keep paying for Sage 100 is for compliance support, which this certainly falls under.  I really wish I had told all my customers NOT to switch to subscription...

Last week a customer asked to quote on upgrading to 2022 premium from 2019 standard. He accepted my service proposal and when I checked with Sage the monthly subscription was going to jump from $600 to $1660 per month because of grandfather credits.  I understand this is new this year.  The customer backed out of upgrading and Sage has no flexibility on the pricing.  How about phasing in the price increase over five years?  No.... Sage may lose them to a competitor.

So were they already on subscription pricing (std) but but are now charging to migrate from STD to PREM (and staying on subscription)?  Or were they on STD perpetual and now sticking it to you as a reward for getting them to switch to a guaranteed future subscription revenue stream?  I am confused as to the exact scenario?

Beginning Jan 1 2022 users can not necessarily change for free.. Any discounts they may have will expire and they will be charged list price.  No phase in or other exceptions.  Opposite strategy of NetSuite who discounts or does price concessions to get a customer knowing it's a long term win.

@Doug Higgs I think the issue is that they are monthly.  I recently had an annual subscription customer ask about switching to Premium and there was no change in their price.

I still have a doubt about this whole change in OAuth, Licensing and Paperless Office.  If a customer is on 2020 or older, uses Paperless Office, but not for email delivery, would they still need to upgrade????

No upgrade for the 10/2022 provided the customer does not email out of Sage.
The 9/2023 is possibly an issue as Sage says they will shut down their TLS 1.0 and 1.1 compatibility on licensing servers unless the customer is on 2020.1 or higher.

Stay current with whatever Sage's FAQ says regarding this issue. The document has been updated at least once already and I wouldn't be surprised to see more changes.

@Phil McIntosh. I remember that now.  I wonder if they converted from monthly to annual then asked to change to premium if there would be a price change.

I checked, and ANY change to the end user plan, even switching from monthly to annual payments, will result in all lost discounts, grandfathering etc.  In my customer's case, if they switched from monthly payments to an annual payment the annual subscription cost would change from $7,200 ($600 x 12 months) to $21,912.  Nuts.

    Doug,

This reminds me a little of how cellular companies used to treat subscribers. At one time if you wanted to change from one plan to another the cell company would insist that you enter into another full year contract.

    I remember Wayne.

The strategy seems incredibly short-sighted.  This customer would love to change to premium, but the cost is not even in the ballpark.  After learning the cost to change their exact words were: " We are going to milk this discount as long as we can.".    They would be tempted to change to SQL if Sage would phase in the increase over 5-10 years.  It would generate more revenue for Sage over the same time period.

Is this mandatory upgrade required for ALL types of forms, Paperless Office in-product email?  Tell me if I'm wrong, but if a client is emailing any these forms, they need to upgrade, right?

    Customer Sales Orders
    Customer Invoices
    Customer Statements
    Vendor Purchase Order
    Vendor Return Order
    Employee Direct Deposit Stubs

I have many clients using SAGE 100 Payroll and emailing Direct Deposit Stubs, so I have to upgrade all of the SAGE 100 modules in order to keep the SAGE 100 Payroll module functioning!

@Michael McDonald  I believe @Kevin Moyes mentioned this a few days ago:  Hhave IT set up a local Exchange smtp server that relays the emails to the "real" "current encryption method" smtp server.  Sage 100 then sends the email through the local Exchange server that doesn't require the new encryption method.

I didn't mention Exchange... just that an SMTP relay may continue to work.  Maybe.  Certainly worth a try in an emergency.

Doesn't have to be Exchange.  That's what IT for a few of my customers have used in the past.

Just so it doesn't seem as if Sage is alone in how they treat supported versions - Microsoft is also set to pull a somewhat similar stunt where Office 2016 and 2019 which are "supported" through October 2025.
