  • 1.  Sage 100 v 2019 New Feature - More Info link for Locked Records/Files

    Posted 04-10-2019 10:59
Yesterday's at our Sage Roundtable Webinar, Elliott Pritchard of Sage was going to cover the "More Info" link for locked record/files if there was time.  He provided the following details of this new feature:

"Yes, you will get a "More Info" with the record in use message in Data Entry programs, this is handled outside of the Message Link Maintenance that I showed yesterday. There will be a "More Info" link when files such as Customer are open and someone goes into A/R Options, and it will provide a message of who has it locked as well as the task that person is in.

    A sample of Record locked:

When you press the link you'd get:
    Record Locked More Info Dialog
A sample of the Table Lock message, when trying to go into Accounts Receivable Options:
Table Lock Message and More Info Link
When you click on the More Info link, you could see:
Table Lock Message More Info Link Display
In addition, I think Diane mentioned this at the conference, but there is a way to turn off the record locking links, in Library Master/Setup/System Configuration – Preferences Tab
    Record/File Lock Link Settings Preferences
This new feature is controlled by a new table called SY_LockFileInfo.M4T that resides in MAS_SYSTEM."

Thank Moira for sharing!  Curious to know pros and cons of turning off the record locking links, if you pushing questions back to Elliott.  If not, I will ask next time.

I'll find out the theory behind the option.

In answer to your question @Michelle Taylor

Per Elliott, the option was in case it affected performance (but he has done some time tests and it has a nominal effect, but wanted the users to have some control).

I'm wondering if we'll need to be cleaning the new links table of orphaned records, after each time a screen / panel crashes.

I wondered about 'ghost' sessions, too - Elliott read out minds and had already sent this follow-up:

Also, Moira, there is a chance that you could end up with erroneous records in the MAS_SYSTEM/SY_LockFileInfo.M4T with things like errors that occur or plug being pulled <g class="gr_ gr_103 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="103" data-gr-id="103">etc</g>. This table is always a <g class="gr_ gr_101 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="101" data-gr-id="101">Providex</g> table (even on Premium) and can be deleted and it will be recreated.
