I noticed yesterday that Sage updated their supported versions page in the KB.
The old page was, in my opinion, a confusing mess.
Sage would claim to provide various levels of support:
- Phone
- IRD
- Product update
- KB
- Hotfixes ( which were never guaranteed )
In substance over form, the only thing that mattered is whether Sage would issue fixes in an easy to install bundle ( aka Product Updates ).
Sage tidied up their supported versions chart by removing all the clutter and making it easier to understand exactly when a release was out of support. They did this by tying the end of the support date for various releases to the release date of the next versions.
For example,
Sage 100 2017 - support stops when Sage 100 2020 is released
Sage 100 2018 - support stops when Sage 100 2021 is released
Sage 100 2019 - support stops when Sage 100 2022 is released
Doing some quick math, this clarifies that a user should expect three years of support for their release
My thinking is that this:
- Makes it even more important that ISVs are releasing their enhancements at the same time as Sage pushes a major release ( the ISV program needs to enforce this )
- Makes ie even more important to chose ISVs wisely - selecting those who can quickly upgrade their integration without a large fee ( I was stunned this year to find an orphan stumbling around the Internet looking for someone who could tell them why an ISV wanted $12k to assist with an upgrade --- in addition to the annual maintenance) - beware of second and third-tier ISVs who aren't abe to product a 90 Mind reference to tell you that the upgrade process is quick and convenient for the customer
We need to deliver the message to customers that they ideally should be on a 2-year upgrade cycle ( which gives a buffer ) or risk falling off support from Sage and ISV solutions they may be using.
