Sage 100 Std Upgrade from v4.3 to v2015. Before I go to far down the rabbit hole, I just want to validate my thoughts. Client is still using v4.3 for production, V2015 is being tested. Go live soon I hope. Client wants to add some UDF's to ease their pain. Question is - Do I just add to the v2015 test version? The way I typically do my upgrades to do the initial migration of all files. Convert files in v2015. Test, get approval. My second conversion ONLY copying the company data MAS_XXX folders. NOTHING else My question is if I add the UDF's only to the v2015 version, then copy the data files and convert, will my v2015 only UDF be created when I update the UDF's? I am thinking (hoping) that they will. Thoughts? TIA.

Great question - I too am interested in the answer to this. My WAG is that if you copy the data then run the update for UDF that they'll be written but I'm not positive. Also how are you managing this when they have paperless office? I have been following your same procedure because otherwise it's ""hope and pray"" that users/reports/forms don't get hosed in a migration. Copying paperless is the trick for me.

You need to backup/export the UDfs out of 2015 prior to the conversion. use the Customizer Export Wizard. Restore them after the conversion.

@DougHiggs - Interesting. But why would you do this if you are only copying the DATA (nothing else like the DD's or other system files). @WayneSchulz - Paperless is always a concern. I always copy the PDF log files from Sy_System when I do the go live. The log files that exist under the individual modules data folder move when I copy.

@JeffSchwenk i don;t know how the Sage migration program works. I do know if the UDF and UDT don't exist in the source installation, you need to back up the UDFs and UDTs in the destination prior to migration or you are screwed.

I agree with @WayneSchulz 's WAG - I think if you are not MIGRATING data, only copying the MAS_XXX folder, the UDF's will still exist in the upgrade. I would update them however.

I like to back up all of the custom office anyway... best practice... It also backs up crystal forms, etc. This is in addition to backing up the entire MAS90 folder structure of the new version prior to the data refresh/conversion. Call me obsessive but it helps me sleep at night.

OK. Re-read that you just copy the folder over. That may (and probaly does work). i am doing an upgrade now 3.71 PVX to 4.5 PVX to 2015 SQL. new UDFs and UDTs in 2015 SQL. Definitely can't just migrate the data from 4.5 PVX to 2015 SQL. I have tried it and the UDFs and UDTs are wiped out.

This would make a really cool FAQ if we start some type of document with upgrade best practices.

Hint taken @WayneSchulz - I'll start a write up in Evernote.

@DougHiggs - I usually only do the MIGRATION once, then just copy the MAS_XXX files the second time plus the paperless logs that exist in the MAS_System folder.

@JeffSchwenk are the log files you're referring to PL_JournalPDFLog.M4T, PL_PeriodEndPDFLog.M4T, PL_ReportPDFLog.M4T and are those the only files you copy from the old system? TIA

Yes, those are the ones. There are others but they reside in the data folders that are copied over the second time. I also look at the dates. If they aren't recent, then I don't copy them the second time.

thanks @JeffSchwenk . That's very helpful. Also, you update the UDF's before you start the conversion?

No. I wait till after. Copy data, convert, update UDF's has worked for me.

I copied the data folders into the new version and started the conversion. I got a message that the encryption key was bad and that I should go in sy_system and remove a record to delete credit card information. I renamed the data folders and migrated the companies in and didn't get the encryption key error. Do you have to migrate when going from 4.3 to 2014 with credit card information?

@JeffSchwenk Does your ""folder copy conversion"" work when going from Advanced to Premium? I am working on a 4.5 advanced to 2015 Premium / SQL upgrade. I have already migrated all of the data a couple of times for testing purposes. Do you know if I can simply copy the MAS_XXX folder from 4.5 Advanced to 5.2 Premium and then convert the data using company maintenance?

@DougHiggs - Sorry, I don't have any premium accounts so I don't have a clue here. The question is how does the ADV data get converted into SQL.

@RonGouveia I will be remigrating v4.3 data to v2015 in the next week or so. Unfortunately (actually fortunately) this client does not have CC data to worry about. Sorry, as Wayne says, YMMV.....
