  • 1.  Sage 100 STD 2016 Payroll to 2020

    Posted 11-03-2020 08:43
I thought I had seen the last of these old school payroll migrations yet another cropped up. This customer only uses Timecard but they are forced to drag along and upgrade their payroll too.

The issue I'm running into is during the data conversion I am presented with a prompt to convert payroll. I can create a tax profile ( via the hyperlink to the right ) but I cannot assign any tax profiles.

I seem to recall that this may have been a known issue. I haven't been able to locate anything in the KB to get me further than this.

    Any ideas?

The only time I've run into that was when a client had Payroll activated but never actually setup any employees.

In this instance, the customer is using Payroll in 2016 without a payroll subscription. So there may be something there.

Q: How could they use TC without a Payroll subscription?
A: They use Timecard and a payroll subscription was not required in 2016 for TC to access the employee data. If they wanted to go into employee maintenance to make changes ( or do much of anything in Payroll ) then a subscription would be required. Without a subscription, they were also able to use VI to employee master to set up or change random employee data. Crystal Reporting also worked.

I think that I found the issue though I don't know whether all the steps were needed:

    Resolution:

    1. Created a Crystal report on the 2016 version to show all records in PR3 where FilingStatusOK was NOT flagged "*"
    2. Found all those records were also missing a match in PR1
    3. Deleted the records from Step 1 from PR3
    4. Go to MAS90 Folder, Home, Textout, and remove all Pre-Conversion files.
    5. Now try again to convert payroll from the start.

I had tried removing the pre-conversion files initially and that did not appear to work until I also deleted the PR3 records with no match in the PR1.
