Sage 100 Standard v 2104 user has an old quoting/pricing program written in an obscure DB. They would like to re-write the program in a modern / supported environment. It looks like it would be a good candidate for MS Access. It is possible some of the data could be imported or converted to Access. I took some screen shots of the forms and table lists as the client showed me the program. Are there any Access programmers that would be interested in quoting on this project? I am open to other options such as SSRS. If interested let me know and I will email the screen shots and other info I have.

Any what the obscure db is? I know someone who may be interested, plus he lives in your neck of the woods.

I would recommend using SQLExpress and Visual Basic dot Net if there are going to be multiple users, and would be interested in quoting on that approach.

I haven't looked under the hood yet but I think it may be written in C as I believe PCC is an acronym for Portable C Compiler.

A better question is whether the user can explain why they price/quote in the way that they do. I'm betting the top answer will be ""We've always done it this way"".

I love to work with this type of user. He invested in the company a couple of years ago and is objectively evaluating all operations of the company. He likes technology and is a University of Chicago MBA. He will definitely say ""THEY have always done it this way... BUT.... let's see if there is a better way."".

Ah, a refreshing type of client. At the opposite end of the spectrum is the CEO/MBA who insists on doing it ONLY his way thereby screwing the functionality of Sage up completely........

He is open to all options.. of course.. users don't always choose the best option. There is a cost/benefit analysis that occurs. Currently this pricing program works independently of Sage 100... that means ""islands of information""..... duplicate tables of customers, inventory items, etc.

So long as they're open to paying for consulting I'm open to working with them too.
