    Hello All!

Does anyone have experience with using Sage 100 Premium in a SQL Cluster?  Anything to be aware of?

    Thanks!

I don't know if @Carmen Cruz has any suggestions, but her docs on SQL from the MOTM Preconference may be helpful.

    @Steve Iwanowski

(I can't remember if Steve's MOTM pre-conference in 2018 "SQL Beyond the Basics" covered clustering, but Steve is who I would ask).

I did cover detecting if Clustering was already in use in my course, but not installing or upgrading.  I've attached my Existing Server Check cheat sheet.

A few years back, just for my own testing, I believe I did a fresh install into a SQL cluster without any major issues, but from Carmen's posts, it sounds like a migration or upgrade wouldn't have worked so easily.

It can be done but you will need the "How to upgrade to Premium using the Merge Method" which is in the Library that Moira has created from the 2020 Conference.  Basically everything has to exist in that cluster since clusters do not understand a path like \\server name\C$ type share.  Without that ability it causes the Parallel Migration to fail as Hidden shares are required for it to work.

Thanks for the info, of course we will test run all this but as time goes along and clients get more complex I think it's valuable to share this information.  @Carmen Cruz the merge method, which I remember you talking about in the meeting of the minds class, how challenging is that to perform, or let me restate, would you say the merge function has been reliable in the past for the premium version?  We have other clients that don't necessarily have two sql instances to move things back and forth so the merge function would make the upgrade much easier.

    Hi Chris,
It is basically like doing a full recovery but to the cluster drive
SQL would be installed and instance would be created on that drive
Sage and all of its contents would be copied to the cluster drive
The current SQL databases would be backed up and restored to the new Instance
The Owner of the DB would be changed to the MAS_USER after restores
Once all that part is done logon MAS90 style to make sure it is working as expected
    If all is good
Now its time to install new Premium to new location
Point it to the Instance you just created
When it sees MAS_SYSTEM already there it will give you the Merge prompt
When you Merge there is no Parallel Migration as that is done during the Merge install

If you want to go this way you always can BUT be sure you have a backup of their complete MAS90 structure and backups of all Databases.  If something goes wrong and you have to roll back you want to be able to put production back as it was.

I would like to enhance the information available around Sage 100 Premium. We all seem to have different documents. I created a summary that is about a year old that I use for unsophisticated users.

I also run into much more sophisticated users who request/ask additional FAQs that newer users don't.

I believe Sage 100cloud Premium is one of the more important Sage 100 versions moving forward.
The more we can all pitch in and document this the better.

    Here's my ask:

    1. Need 4 to 6 active volunteers
    2. Send me your Google account
    3. I'll add you to the Premium Google Group I've created ( only for us ) which then provides rights to the Sage 100cloud Premium documents I've collected.

    4. We maintain versions of the FAQ and other documents which we can share with our customers

But I need ACTIVE help updating this info or it quickly gets stale

Email wayne@s-consult.com if this is something you can actively help with
