    What is your preference with Sage 100 2019 Premium (or 2018, or 2017, etc)?  Do you prefer SQL on the same server or separate servers?

    Same server, unless there is a reason to have them separate.  If SQL has other uses (non-Sage databases), or customer IT prefers (for whatever reason), that is the only time we've seen them on different machines. 
    That being said, I'm interested in @Steve Iwanowski 's opinion...

    If the end user has servers in a virtual environment and there is sufficient hardware to host an additional server, the cost of an additional Windows server isn't very much. Sage 100 Premium customers are generally larger and have the resources and IT management that justifies the separate server.

    I also find that having two instances of SQL Server on the same server makes Premium upgrades much easier (Microsoft SQL Server licensing generally permits this). With two instances, you can back up the SQL databases to the second instance, delete the databases from the first instance, and then run the migration from the second instance to the first. This way the SQL Server doesn't change with and upgrade.

    I like to keep Sage and SQL on the same server as possible, mainly since the recovery scenario is easy to explain to IT (just give me the whole VM). If there's already SQL present for other applications, I like to make a new instance on the same server just for Sage, mostly for licensing reasons (we usually recommend licensing per-vcore (x4) for > 25 users, which means unlimited instances for "free" on the same server).
