Sage 100 Hangs

Customer has been running without issues in v2019 for 5 months.  Suddenly since last Monday..at around 4:30pm...all users workstations freeze and they cannot use Sage.
I enter into the server..and the host is still running...  Look into the Windows Event Viewer and there is a Windows Error Reporting that says FAULT BUCKET 1768875441004046799, Type 5.... the next message is Application Hang.... Any clues??? I am having to kill all the tasks in the server, rename the console and workstation files and reboot the server... But it has been happening 4 days in a row.....

Have you checked what their antivirus is and if it is actively running/scanning at the workstation and server level? I would start with asking them to disable that. The fact that it happens at the same exact time sounds like it is maybe running a scheduled scan of some sort. If you launch Sage directly on the server does that work or do you get the white box?

The other thing we have run into, note this is on a large system with 60 plus users - people running ODBC queries outside of Sage (through Excel and Access) or running a really big Sage intelligence report can also cause this.

What is the user count when it is freezing?

According to the IT Guy....the firewall and antivirus are not activated on that server.  It is a large number of users and they are running JobOps...but they are all in the system during the day...so the fact that it hangs at 4:30 seems strange...

I would check on the server.

Did you eliminate the OdBC piece ? We have the same problem with sage 2018 and we found out people were doing queries on excel (in a scheduled mode) that was crashing the system. It happened with as few as 65 users and as many as 100. They also have Job Ops.

Note - I would check what is running on the workstation itself and if there is a scheduled job or something running at that time.

When sage is hanging, can you launch it on the server directly? We cannot in our situation so knowing that would be really helpful.

A badly configured virus scan on a workstation with mapped drive could lock files on the server.  Check the Open Files if it happens again, to see what network machines are accessing files in the MAS90 folder.

I don’t think this is your answer ...

Many years ago I had a customer with a similar story. I went onsite. Turns out it was an air conditioner kicking in which cause problems with their switch/hub.

I literally sat and watched the lights dim followed by “Sage is frozen”.

Oh, or when my client had the kids dropped off after school and the baby was put into a walker that kept crossing over their network cables what were "under the rug".  Problem happened every day at 3:30 when baby got put into walker to stroll around the office.

I killed a task that was scheduled for 4:36pm...the IT guys, as usual, "I don't know who scheduled that".
Let's see what happens today....no kids around....so @Madeline Stefanou problem is discarted...but very good to know....

I had one.. it  turned out to be the coffee maker on the other side of the wall.   When they made coffee for the 10am break then the computer would hang

Another, old one... home computer speakers with a radio signal playing (even with the computer off).  The coaxial cable outside swinging in the wind wore through the plastic insulation rubbing against an old antenna.  Through some miracle of technology, the radio signal traveled through the cable, through the cable modem and into the computer speakers.

Agree with this. This is an important topic. The anecdotes are fun but not necessarily pertinent.   Sage becoming dog-slow  is something we seem to be running into more frequently.  Sage software is always blamed when, in fact, it is something external to Sage in the infrastructure that is negatively impacting Sage that is the culprit.  Most IT companies don't even seem to want to acknowledge that anything other than the crappy Sage software is at fault.  Most recent was a bad NIC in the server.  Only 5-user system and it was super slow.

Not mine but a cowork had a PC in the warehouse getting data corruption.  Turned out if they were posting at the same time the garage opened created an issue. It had something to do with the network cable wrapped around the garage door opener to remove the slack in the line.

In the old days of CRT monitors, client complained that the software caused the screen to shrink. Swear, it only happened in the accounting system. Turned out office was on the second floor and computer was located next to an outside wall near a window. Just on the other side of the window/wall was a telephone pole with a huge power transformer. RF radios waves can do funny things.
