  • 1.  Sage 100 ERP vs Sage 100 Contractor - Sage support has lost their damn minds

    Posted 11-16-2023 08:57

In the past 2 weeks I have had two different clients call Sage support and mistakenly get to Sage 100 CONTRACTOR support instead of Sage 100 ERP.  No big deal, right?  WRONG.  The support person then proceeds to run some data validation routine on their Sage 100 files, tells them that their files are totally corrupt and that the system needs to be reinstalled and the files all fixed, and in one case quoted about 5K to do so.

What. The. Absolute. F. Sage actually has support reps on the front line talking to people that are too stupid to realize the customer got to the wrong product???????

So I have hysterical clients to calm down.  One plus - obviously I have something for my next newsletter now...

SMH.  A client told me the other day they reached out to Sage Support for the below error (pretty standard screen-related error in my book) but they said support doesn't cover that type of [database] error and wanted $600 (per hr I think).  I remoted in and resolved it in less than 10 minutes.

Error: "29 Error in Definition of Screen" or "Invalid Mnemonic or position specification"

    Beth,

I would be careful. We had this happen to us on the Sage Fixed Assets team. It turn out that the client called a bogus Sage number and was getting scammed. They paid the 5k, but luckily no damage was done and they got their money back.

I was about to chime in to echo @Michael Davis. There is  a whole industry of bogus support sites that claim to be Sage.

One such site is Sageexpertsolutions. I'm sure just as soon as one shuts down another appears. It probably takes Sage a while to get these sites closed and in the time they are running I bet they take in some $$. The site does have a disclaimer in tiny print at the bottom of the page.

And shame on Sage for making such a big mistake in naming Sage 100 and Sage 100 Contractor. Those poor contractor users seem to be on a never-ending journey to find someone to support them.

Well, you're right.  In BOTH cases, they apparently called SageXpertz.com and in at least one case LET THEM GET ON THE SERVER.

Looks like I'd better not wait until the Dec newsletter to let folks know about this.

I've seen about a dozen of these garbage support posts on Sage City in the past month.  They get taken down quickly, but it shows how common they are.
