SAGE 100 ERP v4.40 PU9 - FIFO Item costing question. Step 1) Using VI to import Inventory Items, /Miscellaneous Items and *Special Items, into a Sales Order. Step 2) VI imports a cost of zero for Inventory Items, actual cost for /Miscellaneous Items and actual cost for *Special Items. Step 3) When the Sales Order is converted into an Invoice will Inventory Item pick up the next FIFO cost? Will the actual cost imported for /Miscellaneous Items and *Special Items carry into the Invoice record so that the correct profit is calculated?

FIFO costs aren't determined until you invoice the order. The costs of /Misc items and *Special items that import a cost should maintain those costs. Misc. item costs come from the item's setup but can be overwritten in SO entry while Special item costs can only be entered in SO entry (or at the time of invoicing). Clear as mud?

Make sense to me, but I enjoy the muddiness of MAS...

Thanks @ThereseLogeais - I believe you gave me the answer I wanted to hear. But I will run a little test before I pass this on to the client.

if you think about it, that is the only way it can work. You really don't know which tier is in play until you invoice.

That's my point. They are determined upon invoicing.

I agree with Therese, you can't assign a cost to a FIFO, LIFO, Average Cost, or Serial/Lot item until it is actually relieved from inventory. Until then, the cost may vary from when the entry is made, especially in sales order. If a quote or order is entered but the goods aren't shipped for another week or month, the actual cost of the item will most probably change between those two measurement points. Miscellaneous items and special items are set based upon the cost when entered. However you run the risk of the cost being different if the cost is change at the item level between the time when the order line is entered and the sale is finalized.
