Sage 100 customer is in the food business. They want to start using lot numbers to track inventory. I believe I saw someone post a solution that allows lot tracking without changing or affecting the current inventory valuation method. Does anyone know of a third party add-on that allows for lot tracking without changing the valuation method to lot?

Looks as if DSD has something to use AVG cost for lots - https://development.dsdinc.com/enhancement/1556-sales-journal-update-use-average-cost-lots/

Thanks @WayneSchulz This company uses FIFO so maybe DSD could change the enhancement to use FIFO instead of average cost. I will look into it. They are not opposed to changing to lot valuation but changing is a huge project and people are fearful.

My advice would be to bite the bullet and change to lot valuation and avoid enhancements. Why fight this for something (inventory value) most companies are fudging at year-end anyhow?

@WayneSchulz I think that is what I am going to do. I was just doing my due diligence and making sure there wasn't a better method. Changing from FIFO to lot wont have any affect on the financial statements and it should be reasonably painless if the project is managed correctly, so I think it is the way to go.

What's nice is once you start using lot/serial you can locate who purchased it right on the AR Invoice History Inquiry screen (use the yellow flashlight). And in your case you don't have to worry about any of the PITA stuff like RMA and tracking unique high-value serial numbers. We did create an added report to show the lot/serial that were on unposted invoices since in some cases people would run around looking for serial numbers without realizing they were in the process of shipping.

Changing from Standard to Lot - now that is another issue altogether...
