Sage 100 Bank Feeds

@Phuong Nguyen - Just finished attending a 90 Minds sponsored webinar on using the BANK FEEDS feature in Sage 100.  Hats off to @Bob Pfahnl and this group for such a great educational session.

So my question is why is Sage keeping this such a secret?  And more importantly, why is this feature not available to resellers with their NFR user license?  It has been available for several years but few people use it.

Outside the help text, it appears that there is little visibility in Sage U, You Tube or other sites.

Many of my client's could benefit from this under utilized feature.

We need more from Sage to spread the word!

I'm with you Jeff. No NFR = no promotion.

Now that it is disclosed that there are issues connecting more than 1 bank account per account number, maybe it makes sense why we don't have access?

That makes the feature pretty worthless to about 99% of my installed base.

Most customers manage more than 1 company, each with multiple bank accounts.

And I agree with Eric.  Although we have clients we could "test" this on, we're supposed to be the experts.   And we don't want to look like we don't know what we're doing, which would be how we would appear if we don't have an NFR copy to test and learn on.  Also agree that the one bank code limitation would be a problem with by far the majority of our users.  Which also, I believe, is another reason for the low adoption rate.  Bummer!

I agree with the one company limitation as well.  While most of my clients could use this, half of them really NEED it as they are larger with multiple accounts and have more transactions per month.

I just watched this recording which I think was excellent.

It seems that this largely replaces the older way of importing cleared transactions which I had one customer use and seemed to work very similarly though the difference being the customer had to export manually from their online banking. With bank feeds it seems to create that export for you.

That being said  - I really tried to talk up the prior ( manual ) method of doing the bank feed and I couldn't gather much customer interest. I think unless there is a source of pain in this process many customers preferred to stay "as-is".

I've actually done more with positive pay and that's primarily because a bank required it due to ongoing fraud that was happening on the customer account. Pretty much any company with a large number of payees who change frequently is going to at some point be asked for positive pay as it's just too easy for people to gather up the account info off the check and print their own check with a new amount and payee information.

I only get involved in the bank feeds when the customer inquires or has a real need for it. Otherwise once I touch this "free" service I now own it through any issues that may arise on the way to full implementation.

@Wayne Schulz - NO one changes unless there is great pain!  I (undoubtedly all of us) have clients that just WON'T use any new feature added to Sage.  How many companies don't use the SO shipping program because they don't want to deal with the push back from shipping?  But honestly, in my 25 years association with Sage, they are also guilty.  How many years did we wait for the PR upgrade?  And now PM is back in the repair shop after a four (?) year attempt to refresh its functionality!!!  Now smart users of PM/WO have to wait another year or more?  They feel the pain and they are moving on.  Long-term, loyal Sage users are tired of the pain!  But I digress.

Bank Feeds is a perfect example of another pain point.  I have smart clients that want to use the rich feature set of Sage.  Bank Feeds could make their life better, but they have multiple bank accounts and they depend on BLS as a reseller to educate them.  I cannot as I don't have an NFR copy of this product.  So the client continues to struggle.  Until the day they decide to move on.  SMART companies feel the pain and are doing something about it.  The channel is feeling THAT pain!!

Let's bring this one back to the top as I think it is an important thread that deserves a Sage response @Phuong Nguyen.....

I can understand a delay in responding as Sage Summit is probably taking a lot of your bandwidth, but this IS a VERY important topic!!  Does Sage REALLY value the channel?

    Please prove the naysayers wrong.

Jeff, I am puzzled as to the business case when the bank account is not 1:1 with the GL Acct. When multiple bank accounts feed into one Sage 100 Bank, isn't harder to tie back the gl balance to the Bank Rec bal?

@Jerry Norman - My understanding based on the webinar is that only ONE bank account per company can be set up EASILY with bank feeds.  Many companies have multiple accounts (operating, PR, etc).  Yes, bank accounts are 1:1 with the GL,  But I really don't know without being able test this feature without enlisting a guinea pig end user.

Wow. One bank per company? (That's not what remembered, but I defer to you on this.) I don't think I have even one customer with only one bank account.

If true, how could ANYBODY think this is commercially viable? @Phuong Nguyen - did you confirm this?

I'll take a WAG that the reason Bank Feeds is not included in NFR copies of Sage is that there is some type of fee paid by Sage per feed.

Hmm, so the channel value is less than this fee?

@Jerry Norman - That was my takeaway - ONE feed EASILY per company.  @Bob Pfahnl, can you confirm?  As I recall, Bob indicated that this came from Sage tech support (the lone person assigned to figure out how to make this work).  ONE account easy, multiple accounts HARD.

I agree with Wayne, there must be a cost to Sage per bank feed.   Maybe that's why it's also very difficult to add more than one bank feed per company.......

The other option is Auto Check Reconciliation which takes a CSV file of cleared items and matches them within BR

I'm sure there is some lost functionality

There is also a very big "if the consultant touches/recommends/starts training on it" then there is an implied "the consultant has responsibility for getting it to work"

Auto Check Recon ONLY clears checks.  Bank Feeds clears checks, ACHs, and RECEIPTS.  So there is a barely any comparison with clients who do the majority of their payments via ACH - Auto Check Recon is worthless.

What good is a "feature" if no one uses it???  Sure it looks nice on a feature sheet when trying to convince a prospect to jump into the Sage 100 waters.  But if the reseller can't demonstrate it, the reseller isn't going to push it.  No reseller is going to take responsibility for a clunky "feature".  Marketing can only do so much when a feature really isn't a feature.  It just makes selling against Sage100 so much easier for the competition.

@Phuong Nguyen - Now that Summit is over  and you are well rested, I am hoping you can delve into this puzzling issue as to why resellers do not have access to an NFR license of Bank Feeds.  I would expect that you and Sage would want to do as much as possible to promote/support the Sage 100 line.  With over 14,000 installed companies, encouraging the use of existing features through reseller buy in could significantly increase the impact that Sage 100 has.  I roughly calculate that 14,000 companies contribute nearly $140,000,000.00 (maybe a little or less) to Sage's bottom line.

    Don't you agree?

Crickets??????  So So Sad!!!!!!  The channel should flow both ways.  If you continue to suck resources out of it without any return, your lake front property will one day be all sand, but with no water in sight!  Question @Phuong Nguyen - Why are so many Sage 100 resellers also hustling for Acumatica?  And why are so many actively promoting this alternative to their Sage 100 users?  I don't think the answer is simply "cloud"..........
