We have a client that is running Sage v2019 and SQL Server 2016 with no other apps running on it. It has been running great for years and we are actually talking about an upgrade to v2021/22 later this year.

However, starting on Jan 3, 2022 they are experiencing major performance issues. When the 4th user started logging, the entire server freezes and no one can do anything including in SQL.

Of course, from what we see as well as what the client is saying, nothing has changed except the calendar change. We have apply windows updates now after the 3rd reboot, but no luck.

No new anti-virus rules, nothing changed in the firewall
Same performance issues when running as an application or service.
We have Scanco loaded for scanning, but nothing else is out of the ordinary.

The windows event logs are not showing anything today except the Office 2016 Licensing Service can not found

Since Jan 3rd, we are getting a lot of "SQL not enabled" or "error 15, connection time out messages". We talked with Sage, and verified all the SQL and share permissions. Also confirmed the TLS 1.0,1,1., and 1.2 were running so it was not that KB. Sage does not have anything else to offer since it works for one or two users.

Does anyone have any thoughts on where to look.

    Thank you
    Michael

What does Task Manager on the server show for CPU/Memory usage?

Update: The Task Manager was showing 30% on Utilization, nothing too terrible.

Also, we have made 2 changes and we seem to be running better (At least more than 4 can access now)

    1. Update the settings on the NIC card (Per their IT group)
    2. Purge the SY_ Activationlog file to remove the V/I Records. It went from 270,000 to 33,000.

    Stay turned.

    Thank you

    Michael

What about this from a colleague?

They should check the SQL server logs within SQL management studio. I'm guessing that the growth size is simply too low.
