  • 1.  Sage 100 Advanced on server with SQL Server Express

    Posted 07-10-2019 14:36

We are planning to move one of our clients from Standard to Advanced to increase performance when we upgrade them to 2019.  About 10 users, Core Accounting, including PR.  Their IT firm reported when describing the server environment: "As for SQL, it looks like we have Microsoft Azure AD connect which relies on Microsoft SQL Server Express".

The Sage server is not the Primary Domain Controller.

My question:  in this environment, will SQL Server Express impact the performance of Sage 100 Advanced and defeat the purpose of the platform change?

Advanced doesn't use SQL, and SQL is pretty good about giving back capacity in a performance crunch, so you should be good.  If you want SQL, you'd need to go to Premium and then you'll at least want another SQL Server Express install (Azure AD Connect is not even a full version SQL Server Express).

The main limitations of Express are that you only get access to the first physical CPU socket (up to 4 cores), databases need to be under 10GB, SQL will only use 1GB of RAM and there's no SQL Server Agent to schedule maintenance.  Here's a bit more detail: https://stackify.com/what-is-sql-server-express/
