  • 1.  Sage 100 Advanced on a AWS server

    Posted 12-18-2024 14:36

I currently have 1 client using an AWS server on their own, (not thru a hosting company) for Sage.  They only have 1 server, so there is not a virtual server that the users connect to.  They have a link on their desktop with the Sage icon.  Besides this option, I know Sage can be a published app.  I prefer to have 2 servers so users are not directly on the Sage server.  For anyone with clients using an AWS server, how are they accessing Sage?  Are there 1 or 2 servers involved?

The SPM specifically and clearly rules out a single server solution (as being unsupported).  We always recommend the user server be separate from the back-end Sage server... even with Remote App configuration.

For what it's worth, unless the customer is large enough to justify a multi-server deployment. All our Sage 100 installations are installed on the RDSH. We have had no issues with that. (been doing that for over 12 years)

We have a couple of clients using AWS. One everybody logs into the same machine. The other two have two different RDP servers (One for the US, one for Europe ), and one app server.

@Kevin thanks for pointing that out. I don't think I ever realized that and I know we have people set up that way at Summit hosting.  Is it easy to take advance back to standard? I've never honestly looked to see if that was even an option...

I have often wondered about this "Not Supported" note with summit hosting or AWS servers where users log into the same server where Sage 100 is installed and running it as a workstation. or am I just reading this wrong?

I take that note as meaning you can't use a server OS as your desktop... sitting at the console.  RDS connections don't use the console.

IMHO, the below statements are in direct contradiction/confusing and should probably be revised. Any of the items in the RDS/Citrix supported servers are a "Server OS", by definition, and can only be a Server OS if the delivery vehicle is a RemoteApp, RDS (with full desktop), Citrix Client, etc...

Lobbying Sage for consistent documentation is not a battle I am willing to undertake.

My client is using Sage 100 Advanced and I moved them to AWS platform about 5 years ago... We spun up a server specifically for Sage 100 to run on, and another server to run Terminal Server.  We installed the client on the TS and then created a published app for the users to run so they never get a full TS desktop.  I wouldn't consider running it any other way now...  Just my 2 cents...
