Sage 100 Advanced, 4.5 running as a desktop app (or at least I think it is) server 2008. There are many Windx Spawn windows that pop up on the server with the message ""connection error for port:; #####"" (a five digit port number). What is this? Is it an issue?

Hopefully Alnoor will post, but I thought you were supposed to turn the spawn function off (or maybe leave it on)......... Is the port # one that is supposed to be used?

Posting via the phone while at a red light even. I'd probably think you were kidding @ThereseLogeais even if you were serious. :)

Good that you posted at a red light @RobertWood - No posting while driving!

In California technically you aren't supposed to text even when you are stopped at a light. We ignore that.

Ditto in Washington. I have a sheriff friend who says they love getting people at night with phone reflection in their face.

California cell phone laws are brutal. There aren't cell phone laws in Florida. However there is a law against distracted driving.

Okay, you'll have to expand on these @RobertWood. I'm assuming many things but probably not anywhere near what you're really referring to.

Spawn Error...back to the subject now everyone...or I'll start with a rendition of spawnee river...or is that suwannee river? Must find that reference book on Samuel Clemens...

  • 20.  RE: Sage 100 Advanced, 4.5 running as a desktop app (o

    Posted 10-16-2012 12:28
Dang! I read that as Samurai Clemens. The song is Swannee, but the river is the Suwannee. @ThereseLogeais it's not so much a law as a bumper sticker with an element of truth.

I'm being to hum it now @RobertWood - that dang tune is going to be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Must find new Muse cd...

That's what we need - full compliance with The 2nd Law. And that applies to you too, Sage!

Getting back to your issue Moira, are people getting locked out or are these messages just appearing on the server and everyone is fine? (I'm guessing not but...)

@MoiraGoggin did you see this article on the KB? https://partners.sagenorthamerica.com/irj/go/km/docs/sageKM/Sage%20MAS%2090%20and%20200/Gated%20Customers/Warr_Svc_Support%20Plan/534521.html a) On the MAS200 server verify that the windows default printer is available and not ""offline"". Windx error can occur when access to the windows printer is lost for some reason. This will cause the Windx session to have errors.

  • 33.  RE: Sage 100 Advanced, 4.5 running as a desktop app (o

    Posted 10-16-2012 12:44
@ThereseLogeais - no one has said they are locked out. One user did report that they were in Sage 100 (minding their own business to quote) and the system just shut Sage100 off, as if it logged out on its own. The errors are just popping up on the server. Some days I'll see two or three other days there are 6-10 and some days I don't see the message at all. The master console does not show any ghost seesions. @JohnHoyt yes, I could change the port, but then all users would need to re-install their workstation setups.

  • 34.  RE: Sage 100 Advanced, 4.5 running as a desktop app (o

@RobertWood Is that a KB for current versions of 200? I remember that being an issue long ago (before you were a consultant), but I thought that was fixed in recent versions.

  • 36.  RE: Sage 100 Advanced, 4.5 running as a desktop app (o

    Posted 10-16-2012 12:46
Fixed, then broke it again. They should redeploy all the sales reps as programmers. No, bad idea.

    Posted 10-16-2012 12:46
Are you sure it's running as an app? What are the current settings for spawn apps from server for users?

  • 38.  RE: Sage 100 Advanced, 4.5 running as a desktop app (o

    Posted 10-16-2012 12:50
@RobertWood - thanks for the link but it gives this message ""403 The requested operation is forbidden for this resource. You do not have the permissions required to access this resource."" Another thread said the Sage site was down... However, the server's printer isn't offline and the default is a real printer. But...remember that post about Paperless Office hanging...wonder if these are related to that? @AlnoorCassim are you out there?

  • 39.  RE: Sage 100 Advanced, 4.5 running as a desktop app (o

Have I mentioned that I hate Atlas? I just did advanced search filtered to Sage 100 and entered ""connection error for port"" as the search.

It makes one wonder why Sage hasn't fixed all of the default printer crap in MAS 90.

If Moira wasn't logged in, she will get the error - you have to be logged in to access links to the portal KB.

@MoiraGoggin Have you already shut down the server and started from power off? It would be good to know the basics have been performed.

  • 47.  RE: Sage 100 Advanced, 4.5 running as a desktop app (o

    Posted 10-16-2012 13:01
@JohnHoyt - yes, more than once. @ThereseLogeais - from Sage Server connection details checked a few of the users that are logged in and the ""Server Detach Spawns in this Session"" are all set to ""No"". On the second point, the host program is started from the server through the Applicatoin Server shortcut while logged in as the administrator, so I think that means it's running as an app, right?

  • 48.  RE: Sage 100 Advanced, 4.5 running as a desktop app (o

@ThereseLogeais thank you for the link! I guess when I searched 'spwan' on SocialCast I didn't go back far enough. An interesting developement - I've not seen a spawn error in 24 hours. Last week when I posted about Paperless office response time, I recalled reading about the port for the Sage PDF converter. So when I was looking at the printer settings on the server as @RobertWood and others suggested, I checked the port assigned for Sage PDF on server. It was set to ""Null"" so I added a port called ""Sage"" and set the PDF converter to it. That's it, that's all I've done and now no more spawn errors. I'm fairly sure that these spawn errors are printer related, yesterday searched google ""providex spawn error"" and the Providex KB artcles I read seem to indicate spawn errors were printer related. Thanks everyone for your help and input, (oh and comics and song links too).

    Posted 10-17-2012 09:27
The problem with the Sage PDF port is that it will reset everytime you run the wksetup on a WIN 7 machine. You have to remember to change it back after doing the update.

  • 60.  RE: Sage 100 Advanced, 4.5 running as a desktop app (o

    Posted 10-17-2012 09:31
Thanks @JeffSchwenk I'll remember that. This was the Sage PDF converter on the server that Ichanged from a null port, so I don't expect workstation setup to be run very often, but will keep that in mind. Also @ThereseLogeais I read the KB article on running the application program as an app for the link above, That's how I have this set. Now to work on the spawn task settings for the users and hidden users and get those turned on too. But will have to wait until after hours.

  • 61.  RE: Sage 100 Advanced, 4.5 running as a desktop app (o

    Posted 10-17-2012 09:38
If you're not seeing any more spawn errors, you might want to wait - no need to cause different errors if all is well. And I have to say, I never thought I would see or use the word 'spawn' so many times. Coming from MN, there is this thing called smelting that I used to do up on the north shore of Lake Superior (up in @MyronStevenson's neck of the woods). Basically, they swim upstream to spawn and people net them to hold a Smelt Fry. Every time I see the word 'spawn', that's what comes to mind...

  • 62.  RE: Sage 100 Advanced, 4.5 running as a desktop app (o

    Posted 10-17-2012 09:42
Spawn does envoke a similar memory for me too...all those nature porgrams on TV and spawing salmon. Were/why do program language writers use there terms like, spawn, parent, child, mother. It seems like Freudian issues at times. And yes, agreed I'll hold off making changes to spawn settings for a couple of days. Good call @ThereseLogeais.
