Sage 100 64 Bit.

Sage announced that this was being released next month.  But they also said you have to uninstall Sage 32 bit as there are issues with shared DLL's.  This is similar to installing Office 64 bit on laptop with 32 installed.

So it would appear that you need a new server just for Sage 64 bit.  OK, I get it.  But not a lot of companies will necessarily want to spin up a new VM in the short term.  And what about workstation clients.  I am assuming you can't have both version locally either.

How does one do parallel testing?  It would appear the only way may be to install Sage 64 in new environments where no version of Sage has ever existed.

And on top of that, Sage is not supporting Sage Intelligence in the short term and maybe never!!!!

What thoughts do others have?  I would like to start running with 64 but not seeing a way forward.

I believe they said you can only convert to 64-bit after the Live migration.  (Install the new system as 32-bit, upgrade, then convert to 64-bit using a tool they'll provide).

Reading between the lines, trying 64-bit is not a permanent decision, which is a bit of good news.  SI not running as 64-bit will be a problem for many, and a bit of a warning that any external connection needs to be tested.

64-bit OS have been mainstream for about a decade, so I'm thinking this is absolutely a positive direction... and hopefully a sign of more significant program architecture updates (after the last of the old framework modules are gone).

Obviously, I wasn't paying that close attention........  But maybe it was the north of the border accent, eh?

Ok, so we install 32 bit, run the "tool" for 64.  What about the workstations?  Can you have both versions running?  What about the v4.x and 20xx versions still on the server?  Will they still run?  Or do I really need a new VM server for 64.  Very confusing still.

Elliott said the workstation auto-updater would flip workstations 32>64 automatically.

So going forward seems to be easy(er), but not seeing a direct answer to the question regarding whether I can run the laptop  for a 64 session, then log out and start up a 32 session.

They didn’t talk about third party integrations. I suppose there are shared components that these third parties will need to upgrade their enhancements for as well.

This seems like it will be a project. Perhaps not required at first but eventually it may be a requirement especially if this forces development to maintain separate sets of patches ( which I don’t know if it will or not ).

Don't get me wrong... I think it will be painful, with lots of issues with the change, but I think in the long run it will be worth it to keep upgrading the engine to be more modern.

Has anyone attempted to install v2021 on a terminal server where previous install of Sage is running?

Seeing as Sage doesn't have a clue how many people have tried this - I would proceed with caution and only after a disclaimer to the customer as well as a proper price quote in case you are asked to fix any issues.

My understanding is that you can only have 32-bit or 64-bit working... never both on the same machine.

Thank you @Wayne Schulz and @Kevin Moyes. After talking to support and not finding much information about v2021 CR 64-bit driver and compatibility with CR 32-bit driver in the existing versions on the same server, I decided I didn't want to risk it. Thank you both for the insight and suggestions. Love being a part of this group!

Will the 32-bit version of the ODBC driver work with the 64-bit version of SAGE 100 2021? The assumption is that if the 32-bit driver will integration with the 64-bit version of SAGE, then other Excel integrations would work such as Explore and Lookup Wizard to export stuff out., as an Example
