  • 1.  Sage 100 - 32 Bit to 64 Bit - New Service Installation?

    Posted 21 days ago

Sage v2024 - NOT an upgrade - I just converted a client to 64-bit.  I did NOT uninstall/reinstall the service on the server.  The utility prompted for a reboot (which I did).  When the server came back online, I launched Sage.  The program installed the WS updates.  I then Sage.  All appears to be copacetic.  A ran some Excel/Access queries.  All good.

So my question is - do you no longer have to uninstall/reinstall the service executable?

Did you run the 32_64_Bit_Switch_Utility.exe on the server itself? If so, maybe Sage has modified their 32_64_Bit_Switch_Utility.exe so that it also updates the service? I am aware that current instructions indicate that the service update is a manual process however I don't have a lot of confidence in how quickly Sage updates these KB articles so it's possible that they changed the logic on the switch utility without documenting it.

Yes, everything ran on the server.  Once the utility was completed, I opened Sage in MAS 90 mode to install the workstation changes.  I then started the service and launched the workstation in advanced mode.  No issues.  In Help | About, it indicated 64-bit.  I then went to a workstation and launched in Advanced mode.  Under Help | About, 64-bit was indicated.  Previewed a Crystal report.  Looked good.  Created an Excel query - All good.  Opened Access and clicked on a Pass Thru Query.  It appeared normal.  Talked to users this AM, all appeared well in Sage La La Land.

Should I look at something else?

Possibly firewall if you had to make any changes for accessing the server:

Other changes related to running the conversion utility

    • Converting Sage 100 between 32-bit and 64-bit changes the main program path
      • 32-bit: ..\mas90\home\pvxwin32.exe
      • 64-bit: ..\mas90\home\pvxwin64.exe
    • Update any Firewall Inbound Rules or exclusions to match the new .exe path

That is correct.  I don't know the exact version but Sage adjusted the service to handle the architecture change without adding / removing the Windows Service.  If you look at the running programs on the server there is likely one pvxwin32.exe (service), and then multiple pvxwin64.exe for the actual running tasks.

Not really an issue.  Just commenting on the fact that I did not have to uninstall/reinstall the service running v2024 Sage

Yes... and I was just describing what I noticed to believe that is normal behavior.
