Sage 100 2020 - Are you installing

  • 1.  Sage 100 2020 - Are you installing

It has been 3 months.  There seems to be a BC and LM patch as of today for Sage 100 2020.  The service update 1 will not be released till September.  Are you all installing it yet?  I tend to be conservative on these installs because of risk and return.

Neither of the two patches impacted me.  Search on v2020 other threads where issues have been reported.

I installed 2020 on my workstation and cringe every time I click into it... because the Classic launcher is gone.  I'm dreading the first upgrade, and inevitable complaints about being forced to use the Standard launcher.
We typically wait until the first PU, unless a customer wants / needs the latest version for some reason.

I agree with the service update rule.  I tell clients I trust Mac most and still seldom install .00 of anything.  This is in part why I mentioned the release date and the scheduled PU.  6 months seems like a long time prior to a PU.

As for the new interface, I put clients on it.  Make them promise to keep it at least a week or two.  Only one or two go back.  I would NEVER demo the old interface.  The client can set screen size and color scheme, which I find to be a positive.  The standard interface is not an issue to my end users.

Currently moving folks to 2020 for core only, until that PU is released!

Hi Kathy,  Nothing specific, just avoiding (the worst of the) unknown issues for the new version.

I applicable, it depends on what third-party integrations are available.
For a system with no integrations or if all the integrations are at 2020 then I'm using 2020.
I see no reason to put the customer a version back unless there's a known reason ( unavailable integration, known bug )

The problem with any x.0 version is the likelihood of unknown unknowns...

I've spend enough time on the bleeding edge.
We all know Sage does not thoroughly test their software in real world circumstances, and with any major changes that come with a new version... early adopters are like beta testers.  KB articles get written in response to someone's painful experience.
Not all customers heed our advice to wait for the first PU... and if / when there are issues, we can lean on the "I told you so" disclaimer for any difficulties.

I've done three or four. One was core and distribution. The others were core only, although one of those core also had payroll. Normally, I wait for an update. At the end of the day, it is the client's decision. I give them the pros and cons. Everyone's taste for risk is different. And the best decision is the best decision for that company.
