Thanks, turns out that the customer is using Synology and one disk appears like a local disk and they had mapped another drive letter as a network drive. I'm going to try again tonight with the local drive and see if that works any better.
I'm also running into issues with paperless - possibly because (a) I'm installing to the same server as their live Sage and (b) there's a new paperless driver. I had to uninstall/reinstall the paperless driver for the live 2017 installation to keep working.
They are using an RDP type solution so when I installed once to the server it seemed to update all their remote connections,
Not sure if this is something new due to updated Paperless of if it's purely environmental and one-off for this customer.

It is actually a Microsoft requirement. Sage is using more and more .NET modules, and that pretty much requires installing on either the C: or D: primary partitions. Synology drives do not appear as primary partitions to the OS. So yes, you will have to install Sage on the primary partitions and use alternate directories to use the Synology drives.
In the older editions, ProvideX doesn't care if it is a primary partition or not, so it would run on the Synology drives. I've run into the exact same issue with my DS416j. Sage 2019 relies heavily on .NET, so yes, you are going to run into this issue.
