One of the things that everyone should realize about web leads is that if they're contacting you they are contacting several others. Most of the inquiries come from people who think (or thought) they were going to perform a Sage project themselves. But they were wrong. In other words they have no idea what they're doing. Yet they insist in specifying to you how the project will run and exactly how the system should be setup. When it goes bad guess who they blame? Because these web leads are not recurring customers you have less margin for error --- if you have to write down or rebate a fee there's little chance of making it up in the future.
It's often about the cheapest rates so I recommend never getting too invested in ""helping"" someone until you receive payment. I recommend always keying the project start time and milestones around receipt of payment or you'll have prospects contact you to get ""an idea of price"". Then if you're the low bidder they have no reluctance to come back in 2 months during busy season and announce they will be ready to start within the hour.
I wish that I was kidding.
