RMAs. Have a client doing repair work, but has a policy of sending a swap immediately if the client has paid for ""advanced shipping"". So you choose Replacement as Customer Action and Repair as Item, and it lets you create a cross ship Sales Order. All is good. Then we receive the bad item, which we are going to repair (and send back to the client - and when we receive the new item back, they get a credit memo). I change the Customer Action to Repair and it SAYS it will create a Sales Order, just as if I had selected Repair when I originally create the RMA, but it DOES NOT. WTH?

Do you have a UDF on the sales order marked as a ""required"" field? I had a similar thing happening where it said the order was going to be created but it never got created. after much consternation and testing we tracked it down to a UDF that was set to ""required"" on the SO but since RMA was not populating the field the order just didn't get created. No error message or other indication to tell me it was not going to create the Sales Order, it just never got created.

No required UDFs, and an order WILL get generated if the line began it's life as a Repair instead of a Replacement. SO currently you would have to do the line as replacement and get the SO created, then delete the line and put it back in as a Repair - then it will generate the Repair SO when it's received. And you can't just CHANGE it to Repair, either - have to delete and add back in.

    Ditto in ABC data.

AH I see. is there a field on the line that holds the Sales order number that was created the first time? I think there might be and if you blank out that order number when you change from replace to Repair then it might create the SO. I seem to remember doing that with the PO side before

I just found that field myself. Gonna give it a shot.

Foof. Field shows a value using Crystal, but not on the screen and you can't modify it.

are these Xpress Sales Orders? I used custom office to add the fields ""Xpress SO Created"" and ""Xpress Sales Order number"" to the grid (had to click on SHOW ALL to see and add these fields). When I did they showed up in the grid and I could change the values to N and blank. once I did that it prompted me to ""do you want to create a sales order for cross ship items"" and it did create the SO

No, THAT SO is creating just fine. It's the repair SO that is to be created during Generate.

I think that the fields ""Xpress SO Created"" and ""Xpress Sales Order number"" are still what is triggering Sage not to create the repair sales order. try adding them to the Receipt entry screen or RMA entry screen and change them before you generate documents on the second pass. I walked through your example and it seemed to work. The only thing I was not sure about was the item action on the second pass I set it to Repair also as an assumption.
