Required upgrade steps to go from 4.4 to 2021

  • 1.  Required upgrade steps to go from 4.4 to 2021

    Posted 06-03-2022 12:42

    I had the following information in my notes (90Minds previous post) for Sage Upgrades.

    I have a 4.4 upgrade coming up. If they don't have Payroll, can you jump all the way from 4.5.8 to 2021?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Mandatory order of upgrade by Sage rules
    • 3.2
    • 3.41
    • 3.61
    • 3.71
    • 4.5.8
    • 2013 or higher up to 2017  (due to Payroll)
    • 20xx to 2021
    Without Payroll, I have successfully upgraded to v2020 from v4.5.8 a few times now.
    Since you have no Payroll I would go 4.4 to 2017 to 2021.   All those jumps in between are NOT necessary.  ;)
    @Carmen Cruz what was the reason for the stop at 4.5.8?
    That was Sage's bright idea but what they didn't realize is they pulled the product update 8 for 4.5 and for some upgrades this of course was an issue.  So you know me always messing with the program I checked to see how far I can really jump if needed.  If I am on 4.5 I am NOT going to install 4.8.  I am going to jump.   Tested PR as I went as well.  Now my minimum would be, if forced.  If I am on 4.3, 4.4 or 4.5,  I am going to go 2014.   Convert my data and make sure Payroll and everything else is happy.  If all goes well I am going to jump from 2014 straight to 2021 or 2022, whichever the client wants.   ;)
    You know Sage trying to make things more difficult then it actually is.
    @Carmen Cruz Is this essentially what you are saying?
    Mandatory order of upgrade
    • 3.2
    • 3.41
    • 3.61
    • 3.71
    • 4.3
    • 2014
    • 2022
    If you are forced to go to 4.3 your going to need to do 4.4 next then 2014, 2022.   If you need any of the software or product updates I have them all.  Just let me know.
    I had a 3.6 ( no payroll or add-ons ) that I did about a year ago
    3.6 ( This is just where the customer started
    3.71 ( This is needed because it's the only level 4.3 converts ? )
    4.3 ( I think this is needed because it's the last level to convert/migrate 3.x ? )
    2017 ( If I tried to go higher than 2017 I got a message about needing to be at least 4.5 PU8 )
    202x
    @Wayne Schulz that is the reasoning for the interim stops that I remember as well. I have 4.5.8 and will need to do 2 steps anyway, so rather than re-invent the upgrade wheel, I should just go from 4.4 to 4.5.8 to 2021. I know that works because I've done it before and @Karen O'Lane confirmed it.
    @Carmen Cruz Sorry, I guess I was confused by this statement, "If I am on 4.3, 4.4 or 4.5,  I am going to go 2014." I took this to mean you can go from 4.3 to 2014.
    Your right I did state that incorrectly.  My bad.   Have a great weekend.  Hopefully we are not both working. :)
    Quick question… I have upgraded a couple of times from 4.5.8 to 2021 and everything has gone OK. We do you all say “if not payroll”?
