  • 1.  Request for Proposals - Meeting of the Minds 2022

    Posted 11-29-2021 13:11
    The MOTM 2022 Annual Conference Education Committee is excited to announce that we will be accepting proposals for this year's Meeting of the Minds 2022 scheduled for March 3-5, 2022 in Newport Beach, California.

    We welcome unique, cutting-edge proposals with outside-the-box and/or interactive presentations, as well as those which may be more traditional, technical-based, or practice-oriented.

    Proposals must be submitted on or before December 31, 2021.

    Please email questions to the Executive Director, Anne Sawyer at anne.sawyer@90minds.com

    We encourage each program proposal to consider the following before submission:

    Encourage active learning (indicate in the proposal what active learning strategies you will use to engage the audience in the session instead of having them passively listen to information; some possibilities include case study exercises, role-playing, small group discussion, facilitated brainstorming, action plans, quick quizzes, etc.);

    Demonstrate innovative thinking;

    Present ideas, best practices, and/or relevant research for positioning attendees as leaders within their organizations;

    Present strategies for effective implementation of information learned once attendees are back at their offices; and Include presenters who have significant expertise in the topic area and can speak successfully in front of large groups.

    Special Consideration will be given to the following topic areas:

    SAGE 100 Features and Enhancements, Project Management, Manufacturing, Subscription Pricing, Consulting Standards and Strategies, Power BI, Product Comparisons, Analytics, Reporting, Office 365, and Scripting.

    Very in-depth request.  And very interesting.

    What incentives are being offered for those willing and able to submit a session outline?

    Not sure about incentives, I am sure there will be accommodations.

    But the benefits, if selected, are far reaching!

    A couple that come to mind

    • Share your expertise
    • Beef up your professional experience
    • Become popular with your peers even famous
    • Learn a new skill and....
    • Help others - Which is the most important part
    Any previous presenters who care to comment, please do!

    I've presented a few times after being asked. Some of these went better than others, as do all Life Events.

    I heartily recommend this for anybody trying to stretch themselves, enhance their customer skills (consultants are constantly presenting difficult information to customers, too often with mixed results...), learn more about a subject (we *never* truly understand something until we try to teach it), or broaden your professional skills, accomplishments, and confidence.

    90 Minds is a collaborative community. Everybody in it notices who contributes because it takes a level of courage and generosity beyond the entry-level. So, doing this also enhances your reputation and visibility within the group -- what goes around comes around.

    Occasionally a member will ask "What do I get?" for speaking and presenting at MOTM.  You get the opportunity to give something back to the folks that have answered your urgent support questions at any hour of the day or night including weekends and holidays.  The annual dues we pay is a pittance to the value, or the value opportunity.

    I am open minded to an incentive to members who present at MOTM, however, any incentive would be more of a thank you gesture and not intended to compensate anyone for the value of the presentation.

    Having presented twice now, I can say that everything that Anne says is true. Except for the famous part. Infamous, maybe.

    It certainly takes time and brain energy to prepare a presentation. There isn't tangible payback for the effort, but the intangible paybacks are priceless. There is a fear factor that has to be recognized. It's really hard for me to put myself out there. But my philosophy is that we are stronger together. It makes me happy if I can contribute to our community's knowledge.

    I was going to make a joke about being paid in "exposure", but if I look back, I've received a steady stream of work from this group since I started giving presentations.  Way more than enough to offset the costs. Plus it's a great excuse to get that adrenaline/dopamine hit to remind you that you can still surprise yourself.
