  • 1.  Request for Approval - MOTM Permanent Website

    Posted 12-20-2021 12:29
    Hello BOD -

I am looking to build a static MOTM website for permanent use moving forward.  I am also seeking some more professional support for the branding and marketing of MOTM.  Blake Miller of Mito is someone I have collaborated with on just this type of stuff for many years.  I trust him and his rates are competitive.  He has provided a couple of estimates which I have attached for your review. It is worth noting that Blake is already familiar with 90 Minds having worked closely with Vario for our last virtual conference.

I am asking for approval for this website to move forward asap with approval of this proposal at $3750.00 to do this.   I have uploaded the marketing package as well, but we can discuss that when I get to that point.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

We certainly need to have a harder working 90 Minds site. I also see the value of a separate, MOTM-only site, simply because it is the one activity that could have wide recognition in the external and affiliate communities. The recognition can boost the appeal of 90 Minds to our various stakeholders.

However, I am having a hard time putting my finger on the specifics of the goals (measurable, presumably) of each site. (Having a public-facing calendar of events is valuable, but we need more,) Hence, I am not clear about the details of the content and inbound-outbound marketing messages would be. Can we get a 2-page outline of the marketing plan that these 2 sites support?

I like the idea of a static website that we can continually direct people towards and use to communicate information about the event. Is there any application where this makes another system like Whoova unnecessary? From an attendee perspective, I think 90% of what they use Whoova for is the agenda. I'd also like a bit more understanding on how this can help fund our revenue stream. Would it be large enough that sponsors can be paying for add space, etc.?  If you think it can eventually pay for itself then I say go for it!

Hi everyone - some updates to this conversation:

Will this replace Whoova?  No - Whoova (this year is Socio) is primarily for onsite or week of the event use, for ease of access to information.  The website stays status and will be constantly updated throughout our marketing campaign for the conference - and after!  It stays which is really nice

Jerry - Your questions overlap with the Growthzone site - these are different addresses - but all will be connected.

Here is some additional information.  It is worth noting, I am requesting ongoing marketing and content development support as well.   I truly believe this site and a more robust campaign will generate so much interest and it will continue to drive traffic to both sites - which makes our sponsors very happy.

    Some additional info from Blake:

    Benefits of Dedicated Website
    • A custom and dedicated website to promote and distribute information, display sponsors, events/sessions and overall, to act as a central hub for the event that users.
    • Communicates a stronger, more positive message that the event has it's own website rather than another simple line item in the calendar of the existing site.
    • Full control over design, content, layout and functionality. This is something you will not get using the existing 90minds platform and will actually struggle with trying to use the existing site.
    • Better ability to monetize the event (or components of the event). More on that below.
    Monetization Options
    • Sell 'banner ad' space throughout the site in key areas. See below.
    • Supplement additional communications, such as email blasts, with the same banner ads.
    • I recommend coming up with a specific "Digital Space" sponsorship add-on to give exposure options across multiple platforms such as the website, email blasts, social media posts, etc. This could be separate from your top-tier sponsors who will already get some of that exposure.
I wanted to clarify/summarize the quote as well. There are 3 main components.

    1. New Custom Website - one-time fee to design and build a new site dedicated to the event. Pretty straightforward/obvious. Estimate $2500-3750
    2. Develop event graphics, assets, branding, planning, etc. - one-time fee to assist in building a brand. Estimate $500-1500 (That was a very rough guess - could be more depending on what all you need.) For example, if you need our help to come up with a digital marketing plan for the website, email, social, etc. as noted above, that is going to take up a few hours alone.
    3. Ongoing Marketing services. Assisting with the execution of Email blasts, social media posts, website updates, etc. 4-8hrs/month. $350-650/month. 4hrs/mo is only 1hr a week which is not very much time.

I do think this will pay for itself and will become an income-generating source moving forward.

In terms of the support, I definitely need the marketing and content support for the conference.   I have worked with Blake and his team for over 10 years and we work together very effectively because of that long-term relationship.  I see their team being a great resource for me and 90 Minds moving forward.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.  I am also happy to jump on a call.  Thanks!

    Thanks for the elaboration, Anne.
I still think we should have a marketing plan outline that includes, at the least, a stab at the KPIs we expect the two to affect.
