Reports and Surveys to Sage, etc.

    Hello Team

I am making every effort not to bother too much on this issue.  But I have worked on this type of stuff for years and I know the issues it can cause if handled wrong.     I just want to be clear on protocol - if there is any.

Sage has asked for all reports regarding the Conference including the Chat and the post conference surveys results and comments.  I understand their goal is to reach out to address the unpleasant comments before the end of the week.  The survey results are not kind.

I just want to make sure I am ok sharing this information.  I would appreciate any guidance if there are concerns.  I am going to customize the survey results to only share the relevant session as well comments regarding the Sage 100 presentation.  In addition, I will share the one chat report.

I would like to get this to them today.  Thanks!

Anne - You are absolutely correct to be cautious here.

Frankly, we haven't explicitly considered what data we should share with affiliates and sponsors. Our "Vegas Rules" policy will definitely limit the granularity of what we share. ESPECIALLY regarding those who disappoint Members - sadly, retributions are all too common. Could you prepare enough analysis and information to help us figure out our options appropriately?

I agree.  I think we need to do a little sanitizing of the data but on the other hand .  They need to know that there is some disappointment too ...  The thing about 90Minds is that we don't pull punches and need to pass on constructive  criticism!

Ok I have reviewed the chats for all three sessions and think it would be a benefit to share with them.  I also found a summary report for the survey that just shows just the summary of the responses to Question 8.  We can share comments or not (see both reports).   I think sharing the comments on this question is fine.  It also shows the comparative to other sessions.  I have no way of filtering that out specific sessions it seems unless we upgrade our SM account.

The materials I am going to share are on the drive linked below (you all should have access).  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

I read through the chats. I find it interesting that it doesn't seem as 'bad' as I felt that it was as it was happening. I think it would be alright to share this information with Sage. However, I would like to have the other board members review and respond. Thanks, Anne!

I've been relatively "disconnected" for a few days.

I remember feeling the chats were worse than what they read like now. Sharing the names on the chat seems to violate the Vegas rules.

I'd really like to see some policy come from this question. When would we give which data to whom?

If it's ok to provide unedited chats as long as the names are removed, will we also give the comments from the surveys without attribution?

Do we give them just to Sage, or to other sponsors?

I wasn't able to gain access to the Google drive to see details, but I can guess about the comments on the surveys regarding Sage. I do not think Sage earned many brownie points with their focus on Intacct and SPC. The choice of the 2 customers was, IMO, weird. Combined with the format which wouldn't permit verbal questioning for hard q&a, I can imagine that the MOTM survey comments on those segments were brutal. IMO, they need to hear them -- but I don't know what the most effective format for that would be.

Again, I'd like a policy outline from all this.

We have precedent. We've given Sage R&D the comments from their webinars all along.

The other thing in this case, the affiliates had access to the chats while they were presenting.

The exception to the no names rule would be if the commenter was asking a specific question and expecting an answer.

As for survey results, is there any reason we would not want to give those to the affiliates? They need the feedback to do better next time. Would we give them the full survey results? Probably not.

I'm late to the party here - but I agree with sharing the relevant results and chats as long as personal data is removed. I agree that Sage needs to understand that their material fell short. It makes sense to send affiliate feedback so they know if they how their presentation was received. The chats do seem less aggressive reading them now. Mostly just people trying to figure out how to sort the chat window - that might be feedback that Vario could use!

Vario did share that normally, we would have had a room monitor who would have been keeping an eye on the chat and for whatever reason, we didn't.

For the State of the Minds, I did have another device open to the audience side of things so I could follow the chat.

Some great comments and feedback.   It is very much appreciated.

Some additional comments and feedback from my end.  I have always felt that the following things should be shared with a presenter:  Chats, Attendee List and Reviews/Surveys.   I do not believe sharing the chat that occurred during the session is Vegas/privacy issue.  Everyone attending could see the chat - why keep that from the presenter?    So my personal recommendation would be to share the unedited chats.

As it relates to the survey results - that is a different story and I would be very mindful of sharing comments that someone may have perceived as confidential and not being shared.  But the survey report without comments or the comments redacted (names removed)  I feel is sufficient and give them the overall rating for the presentations which is important for everyone in planning future presentations.

So is the preference to share the Survey Report without the comments for now?

Another recommendation I would make - is share on demand only.  We only have requests from Avalara and Sage.

Sage seems to be more urgent and I feel would be an issue if we did not share at this point.   So just from a customer service perspective at this point we need to share something.

I will begin to draft a policy for discussion and decision moving forward for future events.

Jerry - I did give you access?  Were you able to review the reports?

I have access to the data now. Thanks.

I sense we are all pretty close. Some details for me:

    1. We must recognize that materials we supply to sponsors from presentations like this will eventually find their way to others in the vendor org. These people might not be so sanguine about names. As a policy, I do not think we should let comments go outside of 90 Minds without first stripping attribution. Even if people watching during the presentation saw these details, there is no reason for us to memorialize them for others.

    2. Except for attributions, I very much think we should provide Sage with all the data and briefings we can that might help them understand more about how to make the most of their 90 Minds support. Except for the Sage 100 2020 intro and Malmgren's Saturday session, they pretty well screwed the pooch here. We need to help them understand how to recover from this and how to do better next year.

    3. We should consider sharing some of the Vario data with 90 Minds consulting members. I think this is part of encouraging those who attended to go back and "attend" the recordings of the sessions they missed and also encouraging more to attend next year in CA.

    4. The data we share with presenters should also paint a context within the larger show. "Success" is relative. Wayne's and Nicolle's presentations were very well received. If the presenters are interested, we should offer to constructively critique theirs to improve. Doug Higg's presentation particularly comes to mind as one with good information but held back by the presentation -- I'd like to see him share more of his expertise with the group.

    5. I agree that the survey comments are more sensitive. Last year's called out some names for criticism; not all the targets have thick skins, but somehow the sentiments should be passed along.

    Update for the team:

First let me thank you for the posts and Jerry for the call.  The context of all of the relationship roadmaps and specifically between Sage and everyone else - is hugely helpful for me.   I am starting to get my bearings and I appreciate you all sharing with me,

I have redacted all names or email references from chats and only left the survey results to Question 8 (for all sessions) with no comments included.   All of which have been shared with Phuong now.  I feel that is sufficient for now and we will see if she asks for anything else.

I will begin to prepare a policy moving forward so that the expectations are clear on all sides with any virtual event.   Thanks!

It was definitely much lower than recent sessions.

Part of the problem is that the sessions weren't really framed with the intent. "Why was this material being presented?"

Historically, sessions had been more Sage 100 or Sage corporate focused and not focused on other solutions that Sage provides (Intacct).

The last few years, the Sage presenters were folks who had a history with the group or were addressing issues within the Sage ecosphere that affected Sage 100 partners directly.

The survey clearly shows that when Sage talked about Sage 100, the attendees liked it. The Intacct message, as crafted and delivered, met little enthusiasm.

Robert mentioned something I'd missed until he said it: the Sage people doing most of the presentations are new to the group. In the earlier days of MOTM the Sage people sent were not senior and/or took the partners as "mushrooms" and we felt treated as such. After a couple of years, they wised up, especially after they started paying for their presence. Looking back on MOTM 2021 these non-Sage 100 sessions felt similar to those bad old days.

We need to figure out how to have a series of discussions with Sage Management about how best to use our 90 Minds resource to help Sage with their longer-term goals. IMO, this starts a level above Phuong. If they want to maximize Sage 100 conversions to Intacct or X3, they are going at it the wrong way.

Also, @Robert Wood - How can we get Anne onto the Sage partner information track? Her Inbox needs the "blessing" of Sage's Partner information .

We go through and establish those relationships and get upper management to understand 90 Minds and how they can work with us and those people leave. Half of the execs at MOTM last year are no longer with Sage or even in the Sage ecosphere. I thought originally we were going to have Mike Ritchie as part of the team.

Ok I was able to get Phuong on a call and it was a great discussion.   Basically they were aware immediately that they were having issues because there were Sage attendees who saw the chat sessions.  They did say it was unfortunate that the presenter was not given that option to see that live chat so they could have pivoted the presentation.   Since I was not involved in the planning - I am not sure why that was set up that way.

So I basically summarized the overall comments and the lack of Sage 100 focus and they knew.

She indicated that Linda (Cade?) is already preparing a presentation on Sage 100 (overall roadmap with history and strategic plan going forward).  I indicated that I am still new but I would love to work with them to resolve some of this disconnected content.  So assuming Sage will want to do this since Linda is at work already - we can potentially offer a post-MOTM Recorded Session to attendees?  Webinar?

They will get back to me when they are ready.

Linda and Phuong would like to post online tomorrow.  They sent the message to me ahead of posting:

    Hey 90 Minds team,

I understand our Sage sessions at this year's Meeting of the Minds event fell short of your expectations. I am sorry to hear that our focus on Intacct left you feeling as though you didn't get the Sage 100 content you were most interested in. That certainly wasn't our intention.

As Nancy Texiera said in her intro video for the event, Sage 100 is a huge product for us and we're very committed to supporting this product line and to supporting you, our Sage 100 partners. I'd like to make this right by you all. Let me know what would be most helpful to you.

The real problem was that they didn't understand their audience in order to tailor the presentation to the 90 Minds community. It was a generic corporate presentation. Where they talked about Intacct, it should have been focused towards how it might fit in a Sage 100 consultant's bag of tricks. We are the most loyal fans of Sage 100 but have zero tolerance for corporate speak. It was tone deaf.

I think we had even asked for a presentation on Intacct and how it might benefit a Sage 100 practice to look into adding Intacct to their portfolio.

Interesting about Mike Edgett. He's brand new to Sage. He was with Infor until February.  https://www.linkedin.com/in/medgett/

About the missing chat stream - - Definitely get with Darcy/Michelle, because I'm pretty sure all presenters were supposed to have access to that. If so, then Vario dropped the ball, and we should complain. This was an expensive production, and we should have seen all of what was paid for.

The chat stream wasn't missing. It got addressed in the prep session right before. They can't see it on their screen while the PowerPoint was being displayed. I asked Vario about it later. They normally have someone from the customer (90 Minds) who can attend the session but is also on the call. It was a logistical thing.

The way I ended up handling it in the State of the Minds session was that I had the audience view open on a second device so I could flip through the chat.

The failure was in the prep before the event. Then again, that one Sage guy was walking around his house seemingly oblivious we were watching him.

An update from Phuong on the supplemental Sage Presentation.   I welcome comments.  It is hard to share and promote when they are holding it in pretty tight.  It seems to me they should be sharing on the MOTM at a minimum.  But I am new...

Hey Anne – I already sent emails to those who've registered. I'm of two minds on whether I should send out the link openly. I want folks to join but I wouldn't want anyone not on the invite to forward the note onto competitors. With a group this big, and with me being new, I won't be able to recognize who is asking to join when the call actually starts. To keep this small, if anyone asks you about meeting invite, have them email me directly.

If we host it can we post the recording with the other MOTM recordings available for months? That seems like an advantage.

Or, are they thinking this should be like our quarterly Sage engineering meetings which are never recorded? This seems dumb to me because if they'd done it right the first time it would be recorded in our MOTM archive. There is NO guarantee that all the MOTM subscribers will have the time precisely when the do-over occurs, so it really should be recorded.

If they think they want to open this up to the entire Sage 100 consulting membership, I understand -- but disagree. Pretty much everybody with a significant interest in Sage 100's path forward would have paid the low entry fee for this show.

MOTM should produce, host, and publicize this do-over. We've already proven many times that we're good for the NDA security. Why would they want to let Sage's bureaucracy mess this up? (The missing invitations so far are already evidence of this ...)
