  • 1.  Remove Customizations without having to Uninstall prior to Upgrading

    Posted 06-22-2023 21:08

    Hi All,

Is there a cheat way to remove all customizations from a copy of the MAS90 folder prior to upgrading without having to uninstall them from the original system.

I am upgrading V2020 Advanced to V2022 Advanced and did not want to have to install V2020 on the new server to remove the customizations prior to upgrading.

    Thanks for any ideas!

    Customizations?   Please elaborate.

You can copy the v2020 folder to the new server and uninstall them from the copy.  No need to install on the new server.  If you've installed the v2022 client, you should be able to copy the STD icon to the new server as well.  Just change the pathing in the icon properties

    Thanks Jeff,

These are the enhancements/modifications (Kissinger, DSD, ASI, etc.).

Will give it a try.  Thought there might have been some files  you could overwrite with originals that would cause the upgrade to not see them.

Thanks again you guys are great!!

    Jaqueline,

I typically copy the MAS90 folder to the new location/server and open it using MAS90 mode. Opening it in MAS90 mode allows you to uninstall 3rd party enhancements without actually doing an installation.

If the migration forces me to uninstall an enhancement that does not have an uninstall feature, I will use DFDM and removed records from SY_Enhancement and SY_ClassEnhancement. That of course comes with risks.

Using MAS90 mode on a folder copy (assuming the source system is Standard / Advanced) is what I do too.  In fact I'll be doing that today for a Live upgrade (Standard to Premium, where I have to remove MRP from the source system).

Doing this with enhancements essentially "breaks" the copy, so it can't properly run (because to be functional you have to repair the base install / re-patch), but so far this method has helped me through a few upgrades.  Using a copy for this is much better than doing it on the old Live files directly, so they are unaffected if something goes wrong.

I made notes when I had a customer who wanted to remove Avalara. We didn't want to remove Avalara from production because (a) we had several enhancements we did not want to reinstall, and (b) we didn't want to break production when an upgrade was imminent.

Although this deals with Avalara, the notes may be of use in figuring out how to remove other enhancements:

Issue:  How to cleanly remove old enhancement (Avalara) during an upgrade
