  • 1.  Registry Hack for second identical version Sage intall on the same server????

I have a client who wants install Sage Premium 2017 and migrate their Sage 2017 Standard to Premium. If I'm not mistaken, the installer software won't allow a second identical version on the same machine. Is there a way to get around this by modifying the registry on the server?

The only idea I have would be to backup MAS90... then uninstall Standard and install Premium.  Put the Standard MAS90 files back in place and manually recreate the Standard program shortcut.  You'd never be able to apply a PU to Standard again... but for workstations it should be as if nothing changed.
I really don't see the point though.  If they are going to Premium, why not upgrade to 2019 / 2020?

    Hello Kevin

That's the approach I would typically take, but this installation is heavily customized and doing this work after hours, I didn't want to risk that the application wouldn't work this morning.

I seem to remember that there was a discussion some years ago, perhaps when Sage 2016 was released, or whichever version it was that essentially prevented the option of installing the same version on the same machine. I think there was a registry edit that could be done which enable this workaround. I searched on Sage City but couldn't find anything there either.

The ability to install more than one copy of the same version on the same server ended with v2013. (I have no memory of that conversation... could have been in 90-Minds before I joined).

Good morning Kevin and thanks for the reply.

I've reached out to some of my Sage contacts asking them if they have any recollection of how this could be done. Might have to just coordinate an uninstall with the master developer to ensure that the version will function after uninstalling, then copying back the MAS90 folder.

    All the best.

I'd throw all kinds of disclaimers at the customer, that even trying is a bad idea... and a second server is recommended or an upgrade.  Get your "I told you so" ready in advance.

Hello @Kevin Moyes Would you say yes to remove the registry entries during the uninstall, or would it be safer to say no? I'm just thinking what would be the safest option that might guarantee no issues once the original MAS90 folder is restored.

I'd say yes to uninstall.  That is the point: to fully remove Standard so the Premium installer can run.  Everything Standard is done without a service anyways, and the server's registry entries don't affect workstations.
