Really? This is still going on at Sage? Be advised that if you're planning a ""simple"" upgrade - there ain't no such thing when you have rely on Sage for one important portion of it. Note to self: Add (and price in) another step ""retrieve and validate customer keys"" . Sad sad sad.

Hit me last night when I started a weekend installation. Spent 15 minutes ensuring that I wasn't fat fingering the keys. Serial number is always the first thing to look at especially if you downloaded the keys into a csv. If the serial number begins with a zero, you have to put it back. I finally entered the v4.4 keys with the old customer number and the registration became valid. VERY frustrating.....

They should put a button on the portal to allow the partner to regenerate the key on demand.....

Thanks for the reminder on the 0 in the S/N. This customer does have a zero at the beginning. I tried it with and without the zero as I remember that being an issue at some point. No go on either. I'm not sure what Sage thinks we tell customers when their faulty systems cause project delays and added costs but I fully explain what's occurring with Sage and why it's causing an issue. I also use the phrase ""Sage Product Defect"" pretty freely.

Sometimes using the old customer number works.

As it did for me above...

Register Sage Intelligence is even worse.

I am hoping that SI registration will be part of the Vegas SI session...

Jeff - That's a great idea! I spent two hours one day trying to first get Sage to regenerate keys for a customer's upgrade; the rep was convinced that I was typing incorrectly, and then getting the rep to email the information to me. Throughout the entire process, I was warned multiple times that if I couldn't get the keys to work, I would have to speak with tech support and use one of my cases. #iamnotanidiot

Yes, if all else fails, go with the earlier registration that works... You can always change it later when you aren't under so much pressure.

On phone with Sage - they now apparently forward you right to support who tries the key themselves before regenerating. I actually don't think they try to use the Autorun there must be a separate tool because this rep came back in about 30 seconds and said ""yeah they're bad let me get ahold of sales"". So if support has a tool to test the keys - why not run that tool against the database itself? or maybe this support rep was unusually fast at cutting and pasting. Also - why on earth in this day and age do we unlock with anything more than a registration code? Isn't the entry of all other pieces of information redundant?

Or if the first call is to Sales who then flips you off to tech support how then does a double flip back to sales, why not give the secret button to sales in the first place as it is obvious this such an isolated case, that there is no need to reprogram everything.

I know I am old and not as sharp as I used to be... In the old days the whole unlocking key thing limited the ability to access a module more than x times. If you chose only what you bought, it built the menu with only those things. We should have the ability to hide modules and use a simple web service to check licenses (and subscriptions) against the Sage Cloud where all registration data could be stored. I know the internet could be down (or the customer could lose connectivity), but a quick check every x days would likely be enough...

That support tool would be very useful so we could test the keys ourselves. It's not just the o vs 0 it's also the 8's that look like B's or vice versa.

Yes, there are those issues also @MoiraGoggin. I usually cut and paste to circumvent those gotchas.
