Really?? 100Cloud will not requrie upgrades

  • 1.  Really?? 100Cloud will not requrie upgrades

I thought I would pose this question in case I have slept thru some big news.  Last week I had to talk a client down after Sage told them about a new feature in Sage and said all you have to do is move to subscription, we give you codes and you have the functionality.  It can be setup in 30 minutes.  The client is still on 2014.

Today, our internal person that handles our renewal questions and keeping clients on plan sent me this question.  Am I missing something?  As of right now if you want new features don't you have to upgrade or load the SU?  (Unless clients choose to auto load the SU which we never want them to do because of 3rd party products, etc.)

Here is what Sage said....  I was talking to Sean at Sage today and he told me if a client moves from Perpetual to Cloud and as long as they are on at least version 2016, they would get all of the new features offered including the new features from 2019.  I was under the impression, you had to be on version 2019 in order to receive the new features.

He also stated once you are on cloud and as new features are released, Sage will send new activation keys so the client will always have the new features. They do not have to upgrade in order to receive the new cloud features.

    Thanks all!

All wrong.  100c only unlocks the subscription features for the installed PU.  Nothing is automatic, except potentially dial-home for key updates after a certain PU level.

I know I shouldn't be shocked by anything Sage says but this one kinda shocks me.    Our client was ticked off big time and of course when clients talk with Sage most of the time they think they are talking with us.  Hard to dance around and not tell client that Sage has no clue what they are talking about.

Has anyone else had this issue with Sage?

An issue with Sage erroneous / underhanded sales tactics when talking directly to a customer?  Ummm... yes.

Get a name of who said what and complain (perhaps go straight to Jennifer Warawa).  This hurts Sage as much as Partners.

In the beginning of 100c, it was proposed/indicated that the upgrades would all be automatic via Sage Advisor and that they would/could be done by the end user.  I think enough resellers put up a fuss that it would cause problems with 3rd party products.  Thankfully Sage saw the light, evidently all their people didn't 'go to the light'.
I had a customer the other day who claimed we/Sage told them they could do their own upgrade.  Then she downloaded the Upgrade Guide and tried to have her IT person do it.  Epic Failure.  Now she comes to me and complains about my price and I gave her a great price to begin with.

I just had a customer contact me saying Sage called to ask why they expired? Well, I think they expired because the customer migrated to Sage 100cloud at the start of the year so they no longer have a perpetual license. I wonder if Sage would have sold them another license or a reinstatement if the customer hadn't called me to check ....

Are we sharing painful Sage experiences here?  This one is my "favourite".

In 2016 a customer was sold 100C direct from Sage, upgrading to Premium, with runtime SQL licenses.
Oops #1 = They had PR, and PR 2.0 was 2 years away.  Dealing with the fallout of that was a long and painful experience on customer, us and Sage.
Oops #2 = They run their Sage in a hosted environment, and the runtime SQL licenses sold by Sage are not legally applicable to a hosted server environment.

I use these Sage mis-steps 100% of the time to reinforce the value of our annual support agreement with the customer.

To be personally honest,  I kind of suspect that the client misunderstood what the Sage person was saying.

I won't say that someone at Sage never misstates something, but I think a misunderstanding of what a Sage person says is fairly common.

How many times have you had a client tell you that your promised them something that you definitely know could not be done out of the box.

It depends on the customer, as to whether I'd be inclined to believe them.  Non-technical brains can certainly misinterpret certain technical nuances.

However, we had a partner here told by someone at Sage that Sage 100 does not exist in Canada... when she has been selling MAS90 / Sage 100, in Canada, for 20-25 years.  With examples like that, I'd believe any level of inaccuracies by Sage sales staff.
