re: DataSelf training I received a call from Simone with DataSelf. They would like to independently (no MOTM involvement) host a training class separate from MOTM on 2/18 (Thursday). I don't know whether they will charge for it or not. They would offer this on their own -- ie NOT a 90 Minds course. It overlaps one day of our pre-conference. Presumably, this would be at Embassy. She wanted to know if this was ok. My feeling (which I shared) - so long as she doesn't overlap our main conference (2/19, 2/20) I am ok with it. I told her I would call her end of the day to let her know so that she could send out an email blast that it was confirmed (I presume this is to their own list // MOTM would not be involved promoting). It's not really possible for us to police all the various permutations of meetings and/or training that people (affiliates) can have around our conference. I think if someone related to the Sage channel did NOT buy an affiliate ticket and just showed up to host a paid training class the day or two before MOTM I may be a little more concerned. This would be another reason for the group to price the meeting tickets so that there was less of a subsidy since in essence if this type of meeting grows in popularity you could argue that 90 Minds subsidizes getting a group together to make the affiliate event possible. In short: I say - no problem so long as you are not on the event days Please let me know if you are against or ok with this. I need to call her this evening to verify that it's ok (or not).

We have all the meeting rooms reserved so they will be left with the board rooms.

I have mixed feeling about it. I think it should be before the full 4 day MOTM event or day after. It is a little late to offer it and not sure if people will be able to change their flight and hotel reservations to come. The real question is do we want this to happen in future years with other vendors? I might have gone to it if I had known about it earlier and wasn't going to the full MOTM event. Might not be a bad thing, but it could take away vendors from participating in future MOTM's ???

I don't see how we can realistically stop this since the affiliates could just rent a suite and/or a room at a hotel next door. Rather I think it's a value add. So long as we are making money off the conference and it doesn't disrupt our main days I don't feel there's a problem. At ITA these types of meetings are standard. Vendors schedule dinners before the conference and they have a lot of discussions outside of the session rooms with their partners. Which brings up the reasoning why it's importan that we continue our trend toward not subsidizing the conference.

I advised ok outside of the 2/19 to 2/20 main conference days. Whether she can get a room or not is none of my concern. Like @DianeRuth I actually would have some interest in seeing this had I known about it in advance.

Not sure if everyone heard but Datahelp cancelled their training at MOTM.

Any indication why, @JimWoodhead ? I would assume the decision would be attendance-driven.

Meeting room rentals are usually cheap but often require a minimum purchase of food (lunch or breakfast). Hosting these types of events seem cheap on the surface until you look at all the required pieces.

Yep. There is no such thing as a ""simple training event."" But everybody must learn it the hard way.
