Questions for Friday's Payroll Surprise Price Hike Conference Call With Sage Comment below and I will update this post with the questions we have so that if they take Q&A we may have a chance one of us can ask a question of common interest. - How does this work for customers with multiple companies using payroll? Is the employee tier PER company and therefore a separate fee per Sage 100 company - or is the computation for ALL the companies under the customer's license? - What license level do VARS get with their reference library? - Will tax tables continue to be ""self-updateable"" for customers who don't care about Aatrix or form printing? - How will these new rules treat a company such as a restaurant where they may have a great many workers through the year, and a large number of them are not being actively paid because they only worked a couple weeks? Will there be any requirement that these workers be set as inactive in order to avoid being counted in the tier? - Any plans to compensate owners of the Direct Deposit module who already own it? - Will this include existing Aatrix ACA reporting

Do we really want to bring up the self-updateable thing? I'll bet management doesn't know the product well enough to know this is possible.

I'd like to know as much as possible so that I can be the source of news for customers vs Sage

Is it W2 employees or check employees? Goodwill is a client and although they are well above 500 no matter what, there is a big diff between W2 employees and check employees. ALSO, they do not inactivate employees who have left because they often come back - but this still bloats their employee file with employees who are NEITHER W2 or check employees.

For those clients that already own the DD module, are there any plans to compensate (or lessen) the future charges. What about ACA reporting. Is this going to be included or will this be a fee for service from Aatrix? How is this going to impact members of the Sage Accountant Network who run payroll service with the module?

I have the same question as @BethBowers - As you can imagine a corporation that runs several groups (different company codes) of chain restaurants have employees on and off the payrolls all the time. W2 employees can be double or more the active payroll.

What does ""triggers required bank transactions"" mean?

Should we stop selling the DD module NOW on all new orders? Seems illogical to sell the module only to be dinged three or four more times down the road. I would rather screw them two or three times.

From what it sounds like they are gong to basing it on the number of people getting checks at onetime. This is how abra does it. The annual W-2 / 1094 electronic filing fees will likely be a separate charge.

Yes, but the price is outrageous. Exponentially more expensive than Abra / HRMS. Doesn't seem realistic at all.

An update from Sage - they are moving the roll-out from November1st to December 1st ""based upon valuable partner feedback requesting more time to fully understand all the details of the payroll tiering changes..."" http://s216551651.t.en25.com/e/es.aspx?s=216551651&e=3959&elq=29603a778f7147c6aa5575913136833b

I feel as if a great way to vote against this perpetual screwing of customers is, where appropriate and in the customers interest, guide them to competing integrations. A good example = credit card processing, reporting, business intelligence, CRM. Given these surprise rate hikes by Sage, why should we have further faith in the ability of Sage to fairly manage and price their other product integrations? ADP seems to do just a good a job at creating GL imports as any other third party payroll. Why steer the customer to Sage Payroll? I think it's foolhardy for us to do so in light of Sage's complete lack of respect for the channel.

This pricing scheme should be for new customers only, and then only when in the new framework. Existing customers will rightly see this as gouging since there has been little improvement to payroll for 15 years.

The pricing is crazy. Cost to purchase Payroll module with Direct Deposit is $2,405. Cost for yearly maintenance for 500 employees is $5,000. That is $5,000 every year! Does this make any sense at all?

We had a User's Group today and I had a special ACA session in the morning and we mentioned the pricing change at the end before letting the payroll only folks leave. Predictable blow-back, although to be fair, this client would squawk if the price was only raised $1.
