PVXODBC.LOG growing to 9 GB - customer reports that a PVXODBC.LOG grew to 9 GB and filled their entire disk. They naturally claims the ODBC debugging (on the DEBUG) tab is turned off everywhere and makes no sense. Any ideas on where this could have come from? I look at SOTAMAS90 and the debug is not checked. Would a workstation be accumulating this amount of data? If so, seems as if a workstation would dump the data locally and not onto the server. Has anyone seen this?

I would think local unless they are on advanced and using CS ODBC?

I looked on the server and couldn't find any evidence that the ODBC debug was enabled. It's possible that the file was created some time ago and remained on the server undetected until space ran low.

Are they Sage Inventory Advisor users?

No - they are Starship, iSales and they have a third party integration which reads Sage data tables. I think these would all go through the ODBC on the server and the debug is turned off in every instance I could find.

Might be a silly question, but what does the windows time/date stamp on the log file look like?

Also, are there any alternate DSN's setup other than SOTAMAS90?

The customer deleted the file before we could have a look. There are a couple other DSN's and neither have debug flagged.

At this point, I cannot think of anything else to do, but wait a couple of days and see if the log file comes back. I suspect it will not.

You could have the customer look at the log time stamp in their backups from the previous day or so to see.

    Hi All,

I am having this exact issue with a client.  We have checked everywhere and cannot find what is causing this file to grow.

I do know that I cannot delete it without stopping SQL Server service.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks Jacquie.

Check all DSN's on that machine.

    Thanks Kevin

we have gone through them several times and none are enabled. Is there a registry edit that can turn it off?

I also understand that it can be built into a script-is that correct - I've been checking with our third-parties but they all say "not them".

All ideas are appreciated-the file grew to 30 GB over the weekend

    Thanks again

    Jacquie.

Is it Advanced with the CS-ODBC service (which might be responsible)?

Yes, it is Advanced, but not sure what the CS-ODBC service is.

Can it be uninstalled and reinstalled?

Check if CS-ODBC is enabled in System Configuration, tab 5.

Sage KB has instructions for removing / re-adding the Windows Service, if it is enabled.

    Hi Kevin

    Thanks, that may be it.

It is enabled but the ODBC server name shown is incorrect.

Will take a read on the KB Article and let you know how it goes.

    Thanks.

    Jacquie.

    Hi Kevin,

Thanks much for the responses.  After several weeks, we were finally able to figure out the issue and I wanted to note it in case anyone else had this issue.

We have a linked server setup in SQL.  Not sure what caused it to change but the connection string was set to debug=1 (True) and it should have been set to 0 (false).

May be of help to someone in the future.

    Thanks Jacquie.

    Nice!  Thanks for sharing.

It almost had to be a hard-coded connection string being used somewhere, and I'm glad you found it.
