Puzzler. I've always believed that FRX stores all file layouts into the SYSDATA folder as defined in the Admin - Organization folder. However I just had a customer where I made changes to a ROW layout, saved it, then swapped out a SYSDATA copy, Damn if the changes stuck even after what I thought was copying the layout back into SYSDATA where I thought the layouts were all stored. Oops. Obviously there's some other location that I'm missing here. Never in my time working with FRX have I paid attention to anything except the SYSDATA defined in the Organization. What have I overlooked? I've been unable to find anything only that seems to conflict with this though there is apparently some other location except SYSDATA

Possible Answer: It appears that the actual specification sets are where the layouts are stored - these are shown in the FRX -> Company -> Specification Sets. During install of FRX I believe the location here defaults to SYSDATA folder though it can be changed apparently independent of where you store SYSDATA. Never ran into this -- until today. Of course I swore up and down that the only place the customer needed to restore was wherever the SYSDATA location was. And to prove it I renamed SYSDATA and FRX wouldn't run. Bonafide proof - right? WRONG... The layouts for Rows, Columns, Trees are wherever the SPEC set points to. Normally (in almost every case I've seen) these are the same as the SYSDATA folder but don't have to be.... Embarrassing

I think my fatal mistake was assuming - as is almost always true - that the FRX SYSDATA and SPEC SET are in the same folder but apparently this does not HAVE to be the case.

I do recall from the FRx install doc, which was never quite clear, that you could install for shared report designs or not. Here's an older versions install doc, might help.

    FRx_65_Install.doc   232 KB 1 version

I think the lesson here is if you move SYSDATA don't forget to move SPEC SET location too. I'm not sure that automatically moves.
