Sage 100

Has anyone written, or know of someone who has writte, a program to delete large groups of items?  My client cannot use the Delete Change Items task for this because it takes almost a day to delete 200 items.  Not only can they not afford the down time; they have many thousands of items to delete and they are hoping to have this completed before December when they upgrade from v2018 to v2021.

I have seen that the Del/Ren/Mrg functionality really wants your quantity onhand to be zero before it will work ... aggravated by having multiple whs's if you have that set up, of course.  If it was me, even if you do it through DFDM, make sure quantities are zero and see if the Del/Ren/Mrg functionality will run for just that item and remove as you wish.  Upon success, zeroing out quantities best done by running and completing a physical where you do not enter any quantities.  This may create a posting to G/L that you will likely need to deal with separately.  Anyway, my two cents.

Do you know if the Merge takes as long as the Delete in the Delete / Change utility?  I usually create a ZZZDELETE item code and merge the items that need to be "deleted".

@Doug Higgs haven't tried that.  I do know there is about 25 years worth of high-volume history.  They would prefer to get rid of it, so this would be less than ideal, but a much cheaper workaround than a custom program.​

This could be the problem - ..... I do know there is about 25 years worth of high-volume history. 

I would suggest that you purge the history(ies) first.  IM transaction history, SO and AR invoice history for starters, maybe PO as well  Do they REALLY need history for the past 25 years?  Maybe create a history back up company first.

Then I would use physical inventory to verify that all quantities/warehouses are set to zero.  I just did this last week for a client.  First I imported a "D" the inventory cycle field of CI_Item.  Then I froze inventory of a items with an inventory cycle containing a "D".  Then update the register.

Next, either delete or merge the items.  I prefer merge just to be on the safe side.  Size your batch so that you can run after hours and complete the process before morning.  I would also run from the server to take advantage of processing speed.  If they are on Advanced and you have concerns about speed (see earlier posts on this topic), run in MAS90 mode at the server.

Doing this is "MAS90" Mode is an excellent suggestion.  I often forget it is so much quicker to do so; in Advanced Version.  Thanks @Jeff Schwenk​

They deleted history up to 2017, and confirmed all quantities are zero but it still took 17 hours for 200 items.  We'll go the MAS90 mode route and see if that makes a difference.  Thanks all for the suggestions!
