  • 1.  Production Management 2019 upgrade to Operations Managment 2022

    Hello 90 Minds Team,

We have a client currently using Sage 100 Premium 2019 with Production Mangement.  We are prepping for an upgrade Sage 100 Premium 2022 with Operations Management.  Here are the critical points:

    • Customer needs to continue using PM in their 2019 release.
    • Customer will start using OM in 2022 upgraded release.
    • Customer will pilot/test 2022 prior to going live.
    • Customer needs to migrate PM data into OM.  Ideally this migration would happen in the initial 2022 instance, tested, and then remigrated just prior to go live.

I have read the installations guide for OM 2022 but I am not seeing this scenario addressed.  Here is how I think this will need to go based on what I read, and I am looking for a more efficient approach.'

To create initial install and pilot system:

    1. Clone the live Sage server (in a manner that does not conflict with the live system) - requires IT help
    2. Uninstall PM on the CLONED server
    3. Install Sage without OM on NEW server
    4. Migrate from CLONE to NEW server
    5. Install OM on new server
    6. Migrate PM data from the LIVE server to the new server.  (Is the PM to OM utility work it? Does it work well or create other problems?)

    At go live:

    1. Move company data from LIVE to CLONED (MAS_XXX) databases only)
    2. Run migration from CLONED to LIVE
    3. Run PM to OM migration.  Is this even possible?  I have not seen documentation on how the PM to OM utility works.

Has anyone performed this type of upgrade?

    All guidance welcomed!

    Thank you!

On a side note - since OM is only at the 2022 level.  I think Sage should consider extending the support window for Sage 100 releases to accommodate those manufacturing companies who are unable to adopt the latest release and thereby have a shorter shelf live on the supportability of their products!  Does this seem reasonable or am I missing something?

I did receive this from Sage and will review and update my post accordingly once I read through.

I have yet to migrate any of my clients from PM to OM, for me it has always been a manual conversion from WO to OM. It is encouraging that this Utility is available insofar as it saves you from writing VI Jobs...maybe. There are so many warnings and disclaimers about checking the results that it almost makes you want to use VI jobs just so you stay in control of the results. Additionally, for some Sage users the live Company Code is almost like a brand - it is all over their documents. It sounds like this approach almost forces the user to change their Live Company Code, this will not be a slam dunk for all users.

In the case of 2019 PM to 2022 OM, we are still moving data from Scanco Job Tracker (JT) tables to Scanco JT Tables. Starting with 2022 PM, however, we will be moving data from Sage PM Tables to Scanco JT Tables. I wonder what Sage is providing in that regard - or would Scanco provide it?

    I like Rebekah's comment:

However, I would mention that OM being available for 2023 in a timely fashion is Scanco's challenge rather than Sage's challenge.

This is an important issue and I would be interested in an after-action summary of what eventually had to happen ( or if the document provided by Sage did the trick)

FYI - I have reached out to some of our leading minds in manufacturing to see if they can chime in!

Thanks for the replies thus far.  As an update, I have read the document regarding the conversion utility.  The document is written as conversion from 2019 PM to 2019 OM.  Let's assume that this utility persists through the versions.  On page 6 of the document, it states that the from and to system must be on the same level.  Since we are adopting 2022 OM, I will need to upgrade to PM 2022. This means we will need two sets of keys from Sage, one with PM and one with OM. Wish me luck.  I will give it a try, but as @Gil Ponte mentions, I think we will consider our own VI or SQL level data migrations if it is too cumbersome.    I will continue to update the post as I learn more.

@Gil Ponte Regarding the supportability of versions - Since OM and PM are licensed via Sage, to me, it is a Sage problem.
