    Have a client who sells kits.  The owner, who loves thinking of new evil pricing methods, wants to give a customer a special Qty Brk pricing on any combination of kits that use a particular component.  I know we could do the Qty Break total pricing by one of the Ctgy fields, but this would give that pricing to ALL customers, not just THIS customer.

    Anyone have another client trying to do something similar?

    We do scripts for weird pricing rules. 

    For that one I'd suggest a PreTotals script to loop through lines, and add/update a /DISCOUNT line with the calculated amount.  Adjusting UnitPrice on lines gets complicated because users want things to update in real-time, and the Lines grid doesn't cooperate.  Working in large orders (lots of lines) would slow things down a lot too... where PreTotals doesn't have to loop through lines with each line edit.

    Thanks for that technical-side feedback @Kevin Moyes - that gives them another way to look at the pricing (a /DISCOUNT line), which may open them up to some more flexibility.

    The only possible issue to discuss in advance is that this approach (of having a /Discount line) makes a lot of reports and screen inquiries on sales by item/product line not work correctly - requiring allocations in reporting (similar to how the discount on the totals page is not taken into account on lots of screens and reports.)

    Very true, @Jeff Fiddelman - the first hurdle will be if they want their customers to see it that way, then we'll keep drilling down.

    I suggest you provide a unique price to solve this issue. If your customer is like mine, they don't really know what they want and their initial inquiry is only the start of a six-month trial and error period where they ask for many changes.
