Preparing notes for a Sage 100 v 2013 install I was frustrated that the Sage install guides were protected PDF, not allowing copying of text. After multiple stabs, I found that I could convert the protected PDF to tiff format and then convert to ocr text and viola, I can now copy and paste from the tiff file. Opened in MS Office Document Imaging worked, but there may be other programs that will work too. TIF file attached.

What did you use to convert pdf to tiff? Was it the full version of Acrobat? I have used SnagIt to do a scrolling capture of pdfs to other formats.

Printed the PDF file to MS Office Document Image Writer which prompts to save the file to TIFF. After that opened with the same program and selected Tools, Recognize Text Using OCR which then converts and then just saved it again. You can also use Send Text to Word from the Tools menu but some of the formatting is lost. It's not in Office 2010 but can be setup - here's a KB on it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982760
