  • 1.  Premium upgrade involving InSynch

I'm working on an upgrade (2018 Premium to 2020 Premium), and running into a problem with the planning related to Insynch conversion.

(Insynch is not Live, but the Clearnine project is well underway and uninstalling before migration is not an option).

Test migration was done last night (without Insynch pre-installed) and the migration went OK, but I was blocked from company data conversion.

I have ROI scheduled in about an hour to help with the test migration, but I'm SERIOUSLY concerned with timing of the Live upgrade (starting Friday, for everything to be ready by Monday morning).

I'm accustomed to being independent with upgrade processing.  Take backups, run migration (possibly with false-starts, if there are errors...), reinstall enhancements, update my admin role, reactivate enhancements, company data conversion, report conversion, custom office utilities, blah, blah, blah...

Needing to stop in the middle, at an indeterminate time, for someone else (who may or may not be responsive) to connect and install something... this makes me worry.  I want this done on Friday evening (instead of "plan A" consuming time on my Sat/Sun).

The customer's CRM is not Live, so we are looking into disabling that (so we don't need to redo the system migration), but we can't be the only one with concerns with the Insynch upgrade "options" (below).

If anyone has tips on disabling the CRM integration so I am not forced to do the system re-migration, that would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have any other insights / tips?  Am I missing a potential strategy?

I read this and was not pleased by my choices.

DSD, ScanForce, MAPADOC / SWK, APS... all of them provide installers and instructions for upgrades (with "go live" activities scheduled separately, after the migration / conversion).  Yet I am told: "ROI would need to do the install; we do not provide the files".
    :-(

This sounds similar to what we do with ScanForce. While they provide the initial upgrade file we have gone into upgrades knowing that for four hours on go-live the ScanForce folks will log in and do their thing ( update scanners, etc ) . I believe similar with Starship ( I know many do this upgrade themselves but I advise customers to just buy a case and have V-Tech upgrade).

I think I have done a small-scale upgrade with Insynch and they also updated themself the day of the upgrade.

So, yes, on some upgrades I throw caution to the wind but usually only with known ISVs that I'm confident in their skills.

With ScanForce it is completely different.  We have to wait before Scanners are active on the Live day, but I am not blocked from data conversion, custom office utilities, report conversion.  InSynch is a brick wall in between migration and data conversion.
With ScanForce we get a download and instructions.

I don't remember being blocked from conversion. Maybe I had Bob login in at the start and install his piece. I'm not sure and won't upgrade this customer again until early 2021

I don't really have any issues with the functional aspects of InSynch.  The red tape in my last upgrading InSynch was a colossal nightmare.  This time the planning is the issue, because it is a complicated upgrade we have to do it over a weekend, and I am not allowed to be self-sufficient for the migration / data conversion.
I'm not looking to step on anyone's toes, but not having a way to get through the data conversion independently is beyond frustrating (and seemingly unnecessary... an artificial barrier to an efficient upgrade process).

I watched the tech, and I might have missed something, but there was an installer to ...\Sage2020\MAS90\, with a few files copied manually afterwards (presumably updates since the installer was created).

Yeah... that is totally beyond my ability to do myself, and a really valid reason to put a great big brick wall in the way of independently processing an upgrade with data conversion.
    *great big eye roll*

Sure, there may be more involved with going Live... I'd expect that.  No problem.  But not offering an option where I can get through 95% of the upgrade steps before then... doesn't make sense.
